hi all,
i bought my SHO back in july and i have been waiting to put away my crotchrocket for the winter season before i put my new ride on the road and today is title day! i called my insurance company (liberty mutual) to add another car and my premium only went up $32.00 a year. my 2003 cobra was downgraded to pleasure status and the SHO is gonna be the DD.
today i will install 5 qts of mobil1 0w30, a purolator premium oil filter and a magnetic oil drain plug (if it already has one it fits the cobra too).
next wednesday will be upgrade and maintenance day:
(1) install B&M shift improver kit and flush-fill tranny with mobil1 synthetic mercon and new filter
(2) install shosource underdrive pulley
(3) weld in keystone powdercoating subframe connectors
(4) install dynomax catback exhaust
(5) flushfill radiator and add redline water wetter
(6) new fuel filter
(7) flush brake lines with valvoline synthetic brake fluid
i can't wait to see what these mods do and thanks to the shoforum for assisting with my choice of improvements.

You will really like the subframe connectors. That's one of the best suspension mods, even with worn out suspension.

That's a low mileage car. Nice find! :hail:

I believe that B&M doesn't make a shift kit for the SHO transaxle. They do make one for the AODE, but not for the AXODE/AX4S. Transgo does offer a kit, but it requires a complete tear down of the transmission to perform all sections of the upgrade proceedure.

man I'd try to run some 96-99 SHO front brakes too, for a nice cheap mod that makes a good difference on a DD

for a free mod pull the intake silencer out of the inner fender that routes into the airbox, that makes it sound a lot better.........

Why 0w-30? If you live in or near Northern Virginia 5w-30 should be more than OK. I run it year round in my SHO.

The oil gets significantly thicker when cold, even synthetic. 0W doesn't get nearly as thick as 5W. Testing has documented that the vast majority of engine wear occurs when the oil is cold, so anything that one does to keep the viscosity closer to 'hot' oil values is good for your engine. 0W30 synthetic is the same price as 5W30 synthetic, and there is no downside, so why would anyone run 5W30 synthetic?

I never noticed much of a difference to be honest.

You mean it didn't make your chassis stiffness all Madd Tyte and add 20 MPH to your favorite highway entrance ramp?

Geeze, we must be doing something wrong then - the Honduh crowd bolts some silly brackets between the fenders and the ends of the bumper beams and the car starts handling like an M3...

0w30 is mobil1's advanced fuel economy formula. it meets all manufacturer's warranty requirements for 5w30 and is supposed to give about 1/2 mpg increase in fuel economy according to the calculator on mobil's website. less friction is also good for HP.
i plan on removing the snorkle in the air horn. TIA

I can understand the desire for 0w in the colder areas, but it rarely drops below freezing around here.

If it's the same price why not

You have to actually drive your SHO to feel the difference.:zoom:

Just messin with ya Jason.

I noticed the SFC's as soon as I drove out of my garage.
If you play your cards right, you can do some cool 3 wheel motion action.

I have a picture of Eric's car (now Sam's) doing that WITHOUT SFC's ;).

I Just feel a little bit better about beating my car knowing I have something a little thicker protecting my rods and mains than 5w30 .... 10w30 synthetic here.

Ummm.... When hot, they're all about the same. When cold, 0w is THINNER.

thanks for the info. i bought my kit from jegs and their search engine said that the B&M kit fits the 3.2L. does rockauto sell the transgo kit? i don't want any kit that requires a complete teardown to install. my tranny shifts fine for now. TIA

The B&M kits are for a RWD transmission. Only TransGo makes a kit for the SHO tranny. And it DOES require a complete tear down. It isn't just a valve body plate.
