I was wondering how all you guys wired your aftermarket decks with the wiring. I went and looked at scosche and they have the wiring harness for $13.00 from sounddomain.com but then you have to use a interface adapter also for the factory amps? And thats another 19.95. But another guy told me to use a Metra 70-5511 wiring harness which is pretty much the same thing as the scosche wiring harness. My question is do I really have to use the interface adapter, I would like to still use the factory amp, but if I have to pay the extra 20.00 I can use the internal amp in the cd player which is 50x4. Thanks a lot, I wanna try to get this all figured out soon so I can get my new cd player hooked up so I can finally get my subs working again!

I have a Pioneer deck in my SHO. I took out the factory sub and run my own with a sperate amp but I still run the factory speakers inside. I got one of those adaptors that converts the factory amp connector to 2 sets of RCA's. I hooked those 2 sets to the front and rear output on a 7 band EQ and then hook my deck to the EQ's input. Works great for me right now but I will be replacing the factory speakers and amp soon with high power aftermarket ones.

Shouldn't your Pioneer head unit already have RCA's? Mine has 3 sets, front, rear, and sub...

I'm thinking the same thing as Jay here. Your Pioneer should already have pre-amp outputs on the rear of the unit. If you use these instead of that crappy converter, you'll enjoy much better sound quality.

I also have a Pioneer CD HU in my car. I've just got the Scosche(sp?) adapter up front; I didn't bypass the amps at all. I have a bypass plug, but I haven't put it in at all yet shrug . I am fairly happy with what I've got right now, and I don't want to blow the factory speakers (we all know the stock amps won't do that  ).

BTW, depending on how old the HU is, Ben may only have 1 set, like I do. My stereo is from 2000, and wasn't exactly the top of the line when I got it (in fact, it was pretty much the bottom of the line - it doesn't even have a detachable face  ).

I thought I'd chime in here...

Bypass the factory amp. It sucks....

I got the bypass kit from crutchfeld when my deck came in and man, the sound quality is so much better with the new deck without the factory amp.

Sell the amp, stock head units.... you're better off with the new!

I too have a Pioneer head(and love it). I got a harness from Circuit city that pluged into everything and bypassed the factory amps and what not. I've noticed that the volume doesn't really get any louder after 20, and If I try to turn it up any louder, it seems to sound a little funny. Does anyone know if this is because of the speakers, or because of the deck, or both?

Depends. Are you using the loudness feature? I couldn't turn up the volume on aftermarket speakers while I ran them through the factory amps... I could go about as high as 18 on my Alpine deck. If you are using the factory speakers through the HU, there's a good chance it's the speakers that suck.

In my experience, speakers run off an internal HU amp will almost never sound good at high volume. The deck usually overheats and distorts.

As far as Ben's setup goes, this is what I would have wanted to hook my HU up to: RCAs. Notice he didn't specify how his deck is connected to the EQ. It could very well be with RCAs, and he just wants the sound to be processed by the EQ. So what? I have all three sets of preouts, and I couldn't use them. I would have loved to use them to hook to the factory amp, even if it was temporary.

Now where the **** is quadmasta on this one?

I don't have the part number handy but I used the Metkits "ford premium sound JBL" kit.

You do not have to bypass the amps.

Its about $17 and it comes with 3 plugs

I think that's what I used also for my white SHO, it was around that price from Best Buy and came with the Deck Wiring and Amp Bypass

The converter I have just changes the factory amp plug into 2 sets of RCA connectors. The deck I have only has a single line level output and a sub output. I run the single line lever to my EQ which then gives me a front and rear set of RCA's that I then plug into the front and rear set of RCA's the converter gives ya. Then I ran the sub outputs to my subs. I plan on replacing the factory speakers and amp soon but haven't felt like tearin' the whole thing apart. I haven't had a chance to measure the SPL with a meter since I installed the Dynomat and tuned the subs a bit but when I first installed them, I was able to push around 130db without turning up the amp gain. These subs blew out my rear window seal on my old Elantra. Heh...

Several years back I got Rockford certified while helpin' out at the Brainerd/Backster RadioShack. There a franchise store (very uncommon) and they have 7 install bays. At the time we were workin' on the Rockford's '95 Competition Van. Total of 32 amps and 40 subs. It was pretty cool. Too bad the Rockford cert. makes it so places like Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics, and Circuit City won't hire you to do install because they'd have to pay ya more. I've tried and that's the answer I've gotten from all of them. Oh well, ****** places to work anyways.
