My question is: will a 26mm rear bar from Gen1 fit my Gen2, or do I need to buy a specifically Gen2 sway bar?

To give you some context: I am picking up a suspension package from MidWest SHO (sorry - the W Body Store) - the Eibachs/Tokico combination, and I'm contemplating putting a 26mm sway bar in the rear to complete the upgrade (the car is a '92MTX so should have a 24mm bar in the front already and likely has a 23mm in the rear - factory set up). In the end this would give me the 24/26 front/rear combination that appears to be the favourite on the forum. BTW this is strictly for street use for a daily driver, with some fun twisties thrown in.

Thanks in advance for any responses and pointers!

Yes, as long as you use the correct bushings in the frame mounts. If the sway bay link rods are weakened by corrosion, you should consider replacing them with new pieces as I have heard of the thicker bar causing some Gen II links to bend. Likely due to rusting.
