Which do you think will win in a flat out drag race from 0-100mph or so? (done at a local race track of course)

I have the '95 ATX and my boss has the '89.

Here's the specs on my '95 ATX:
*140k miles & was completely rebuilt at around 120k (Complete tear down to heads w/ complete valve job, valve adjustment, upper & front 60k, rod bearings)
*Ford Performance Specialist high-flow Y-pipe w/ cats
*Borla catback exhaust system but I swapped out the Borla mufflers for Magnaflow Super 40's
*Spectre Performance CAI w/ completely enclosed box pulling air directly in from fender
*Newly rebuilt transmission w/ beefed up internals & new TC
*Superchips Tuner (removed red limiter, increases shift point for WOT to about 7500RPM, firms up shifts a lot, & not sure about any other noticeable differences)

And for his '89:
*Approx. 120k miles
*BONE STOCK--no modifications or non-O.E. parts
*He recently replaced the clutch with a standard replacement Sachs clutch & O.E. Ford flywheel.
*He has converted the shifter to a rod shifter but still have the original y-pipe & cats.

I know when comparing apples to apples a bone stock MTX vs. ATX the manual will win.. but do you think my Gen 2 ATX has enough minor mods to account for the disadvantage of being an ATX?

I'm not necessarily expecting to win but I am curious if these mods I made are truly enough added performance to be noticeable in this kind of race.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Predictions?

Thanks!

lol this guy^

From a dig, if the guy driving the 89 doesnt have torn up engine mounts and can actually drive then you will not only get beat off the line but lose the whole race. If the guy cant drive you will pull alittle from a dig but chances are he will walk by you around 70.

atx = slow and bench racing = ftl

go race him already, on the track that is. I got a street racing ticket friday night, trust me you dont want that.

Hmmmm....nice to know

...then you will not only get beat off the line but lose the whole race.

LOL. So not true from a dig.

Depending on what speed you race him to and the driver, from a dig you will win most likely. From a roll most likely he will win unless you do a low 1st gear roll, like 20 mph. Then it would be a little closer. He will probably still pull past you SLOWLY in 3rd gear.

If at a drag strip=It all depends on the MTX launch! If he spins, bogs or wheel spin- you will have him till the 1/8- then MTX 3rd gear kicks in & by the 1/4 he will have pulled on you.
--& you really don't have any mods! a ATX 'Y' pipe maybe gives you 4-5 HP! Much less bang for the buck compared to a MTX 'Y' which can give you 10-12HP>

You have an ATX and your boss has an 89.

I know why he's your boss. He will show you on the strip.

If possible, I would lower your 1-2 shift down to 7100rpm. 7500rpm in an atx is running out of steam with 3.2 cams. Swap in 3.0 cams too.

The high flow y-pipe coupled with the catback=maybe 6-10hp

Otherwise the bestmod you have is the tranny mod. Adjusting shift points higher and firmer shifts on an atx does wonders!

I'd have to say it will probably be close. If he's a sucky driver then you got him. In no way shape or form will he beat you off the line though.

too many factors to try and call this one. how well maintained is the MTX? how well can your boss bang gears? how well prepped is the track? what kind of tires are you both running?

Thanks for all the responses guys. I have no idea what kind of driver he is & how well he can drive or shift.. I've never driven with him.

His front motor mount is torn up but he says it's not too bad.

His car is very well maintained - although he is approx. 5k shy of doing the timing belt & water pump again. The valve adjustment has never been done.

I double checked my WOT shift point and it's actually about 7200 with the Superchips chip.

FYI 93Rev my boss hated Fords when I started working here. But after about a year of me not shutting up about the SHO's and finally getting this one again which I gave him a ride in... he caved in and bought himself one. I even helped him find the '89 (which I would have bought myself if I had been in the position to)

We are both running the exact same tires (Cooper CS4 Touring V-rated) ---nothing track ready, just a nice all-season rubber with good traction.

We will try and get a video but not sure if it will be possible as we don't plan on having any passengers and not sure about anyone outside to take it. But we'll see

he said his boss hates fords. that means he will shift the snot out of it and you will lose.

oh and gen1's run better without maintenance. helps them beat atx's

you got the video's from a dig? Wasn't even a race.

His front motor mount is torn up...

The answer is right there...ATX FTW!

3.2 swap w/ bolt-ons vs. atx w/ bbb's to 80mph...ATX FTW! Do you remember?

So I need some advice ATX guys....

We decided to race at a local drag event on May 15th. I have the Superchips tuner that removes my rev limiter so should I just let the tranny shift naturally for the 1-2 WOT shift & then drop the gear shifter into 2nd & let it finish the run @ about 8,000 in 2nd to cross the finish line or should I shift before that? If I should let it shift @ what RPM should I do it? Because it only gets to around 6500RPM naturally even with the chip. I know the power starts to drop off after 7100RPM or so, but even if the power does start to "drop off" it still has to be more power than dropping back down to under 4K & bogging down right?

What are your thoughts?
