Gates timing belt?? Other options?

Hi,

I'm having the dreaded vanishing coolant, stalling/211 code problem and plan on replacing the waterpump, timing belt, etc. Sdpatt's excellent list of 60/100k parts lists rockauto.com as the source for the gates t248 timing belt. Other posts in the archive seem to indicate that this is THE belt to get.

Unfortunately, looking at rockauto's webpage, I do not find the gates belt. I looked in December (before I got the 211 code), when I thought it might be time to do the front end maintenance and I think it was listed then. (Should have got it then... doh ) Now, they list an ACDelco belt (TB248) at $47.49 as the only option for an ATX, but also list a cloyes B248 at $35.89 for the 3.0 (and a "sealed power w/timing marks" for $63.79). The cloyes belt is the only belt listed as a "stock item". The others say that they'll take a few days longer to ship.

A local parts store carries gates but wants $59 for the gates belt. Does anyone know how the cloyes and ACDelco belts compare to the Gates? (Does the cloyes have the ATX mark?) Alternatively, are there any other inexpensive sources (online or in Oregon) for the gates belt?

When browsing the RockAuto online catalog, look up the Gates Timing Belt using the Part # (T248) instead of looking it up by vehicle make and model. You should have better luck that way.

I must've typed something in wrong when I searched before, or put too much in the search line. They still list it, so it's a no brainer to order the gates.
