I got a question my SHO has the carpet style seats that I think are ugly. I wanted to ask if anyone’s got an idea should I buy new seats and bench or should I just reupholster the seats, or if I should just buy some low profile race seats that look stock until you look further? Throw some prices out and your opinions.

You won't find new ones and the replacement covers are going to cost you in the neighborhood of $1000 depending on the material. Your best option if you want to stick with originality is to post a WTB looking for another set or keep an eye out for a cheap SHO with the seats that you want and then buy it and swap them. Resell the car after you swap the seats. I've done that a few times.

If you want to ditch the 50/50 fabric strips, you can look for wrecking yard full leather 4 seat set in the same or larger size at a u-pull, even from a Sable or even the slightly different color of a G3, and with your heavy duty hog-ring cutter, buy just the seat upholstery (they have a lower price for skins at my place, but lots of yard work). Then sew in the corresponding strips.

Full leather SHO in a wrecking yard without cracks or rips is a near impossibility these days, so thank yourself for getting uncracking fabric to keep your butt the right temperature in the sun or cold.

Another (rare) source of SHO front seats is the 1994 Thunderbird S/C (or non-SHO leather seats from non SC Thunderbirds or perforated leather in -93). These tilt forward also, so some swapping of hardware might be desired. 1994 SC brochure has the seat bottoms looking like they have looser bunched leather instead of the stretched-tight SHO seats, but that might just be the particular seats used for the photos.

They even have a full-cloth bolster seat as the base option!

I've inherited my father's '89 SHO and am assessing whether to keep it. It has gray perforated leather seats and the driver's is completely shot, like to the extent that the leather is gone from the seat bottom and the foam seems to be breaking down. From the posts above, it sounds like options are few and finding decent replacements might be an epic quest. If I were to sacrifice originality and look for any reasonable seat that interchanges well, do all Taurus/Sable seats from '86 to '95 work? Anything compatible from other cars? I see T-bird Super Coupes mentioned, but that seems like a long shot.

If I were you I’d get your seats reupholstered. I did find leather seats but I had to buy a whole parts car to get them

I think you can swap the covers if you can find a good passenger front seat (which is easier than finding a good drivers seat). All 89 seats are the same colour.

I don't think there is a discount if you get the entire interior recovered, so just get the drivers seat done to start.
