The other day I wasnt paying attention to how low my gas was on the way home and I ran my tank totally empty. Now I have a CE light on, and a horrible noise is coming from the rear of the car, sounds like right rear, every now and then. I'm pretty sure its the fuel pump, and some horrible crap got jammed in it from the bottom of my gas tank. I was just wondering if someone could give me some instructions on how to remove the old/install a new fuel pump. Thanks guys.

P.S. running out of gas = dumbest thing ever

First thing to do is determine why the CE light is on. Read the codes before doing anything then get back with us. No reason to start throwing money at the car without knowing exactly what's wrong.

yes, check codes. if then needed,do a search here in the forum for removing tank replacement or cutting out floor under rear seat, and then make your own decision. personally after doing mine with cutting the floor thats the only way to go. took about 2.5 hours being very particular as i am. now if i have another problem im done in 15mins.

Yes running completely out of gas is never a good thing. The gas around the fuel pump acts as a coolant as it operates. It's totally possible the the fuel pump overheated as a result of running the tank empty. But it wouldn't explain the CE light if it's always on. Fuel pump codes will set a code in stored memory and not illuminate the CE. Do a search for checking codes and start there. Although it wouldn't be a bad idea to start looking for a new pump while you are at it. Consider upgrading to a higher flow pump like a 190 ltr/hr pump. The cost versus a stock pump is similar IIRC.
