Front Windshield tint

I was talking to my window tint guy, and he says to have a look at his cars. he has a BMW 3 Series with very illegal tint on the side maybe 15%.
His back windows are limo black, also illegal.
His front windshield is at 40%, while not very dark, still illegal.

He has a Dodge Truck, same way.
Also an Acura TL the same way.
In 13 years, he has never been pulled over except once in an old Bronco II.

I think I'm gonna do it.
We're going to go 35% on all windows with the front Windshield at 40%.

Anyone else doing this? I hope to get it done next week. I cant wait to post pics!!!!

I wouldn't do it. I'll admit that while it looks great, its definately a safety issue. Picture driving at night, on a nonlit road through heavy downpours, or fog. You won't be able to see ****, potentially endangering your life, or the lives of others.

Don't take this personally but your nuts for even thinking of doing it with 40%. The most I would ever consider [let alone actually do] is something like 75%, if they even make it that 'light'.....


The 'coolness' factor is not worth it for me, I like to see where I'm going.....

Well, this is not a daily driver. I dont drive it at night for the most part. I have upgraded my lighting with new silverstar st lamps and new foglights.

I think I'm still going to do it.
I was hoping someone out there may have done it so I could see their pics.
Like I said, since buying the car, Ive never driven it at night. Most likely, if I do, it will be for a short distance. I saw my tint guys truck with the 40% and it wasnt too bad.
But thats what i posted this far is opinions, and I do appreciate it.

for what its worth my buddy has an srt8 grand cherokee with 35 on the front with 5% all around. its not too bad.

I personally know 4 people that have gotten pulled over for specifically tint and gotten tickets for it; they had 20%-35% on all windows. This is in pa maybe they don't like tint here. Its just asking to get pulled over imo, and what everyone else said its a safty issue I have enough trouble seeing out of my 35% at night.

If your building strictly a show car, I'd tint the windshield cause it would look good. If your driving the car regularly, I'd stay away from it...

thats the way im thinking. Its been three weeks since I drove the car. I just pull it out of the garage, drive around the block and then park it. when its done, I dont think it'll be driven at night much, if at all.

So you are gonna tint the windshield??? Im sorry but that would really look cheesy.. I loved how my old SHO looked like 35% all around minus the windshield. Personally, adding 35% to the windshield would make it look too... i dunno.... Cheesy?

I plan on doing it as well. Like you, I don't drive my car much at all. Just an occasional joy ride or a trip to a car show. Haven't decided on the % of tint, but I won't go to dark.


BTW, for those that remember, Chuck had it done on his blue SHO and it looked great and you could still see fine even at night.

IMHO, and it's just that, tinting a windshield is beyond dumb if it EVER rolls a tire on a public road.

I killed a tire on the SVTF because I couldn't see a curb at night with the driver's window at 15% (done before I got the car). Good looks are great, but not at the cost of safety for yourself or others, as well as the legal exposure you're creating for yourself.

I agree with what others have said.

Drive the car at night with sunglasses on and see how it is. You spent the money on upgraded headlights and fog lights(hopefully to see better, and not just for the "cool look"), and know you're going to have worse lighting then stock.

If you never drive it at night, why spend the money on the lighting to begin with?

I have 35% on all windows but the back, and I don't have tint on the windshield. What I have on the front windows is illegal. It really depends on your area if you will get pulled over or not. The darker it is, the more it will stick out. I have gone past cops before and haven't had a problem. At night the 35% isn't bad at all. I still need to tint my rear window, so I don't really know what it is like trying to back up.

I think 40% on the front would look cool, but it may make it difficult to see at night. In the end it is up to you. You won't know what it is like without trying it, but if cops in your area are known for pulling over for tint, then tint on the windshield would stand out.

thanks to everyone for their opinions. I'm still wrestling the the % of windshield tint, but I know its going to be tinted.

My personal liking [on a 4-door car] is when the back three windows have a certain % of tint and the front two are a lighter %, 35 back/50 front is what prefer. I think it's a good combination and gives the car a feeling of front and back. If I was to do the front windshield I'd have it the same as the front two windows or even a touch lighter [60-75%]. When I see a car that has all the windows [front windshield optional] done with the same tint % [especially when darker] it gives the enitre car a two-tone like appearance....

I see everyone disagrees with tinting the windshield... for obvious safety issues. But if its a very light tint maybe it wont be too bad? I personally dont like the back windows darker than the front ones, you know the 2 tone looking thing. Im getting a light tint all along my side windows with a medium on the back window.

in Minnesota you have to have some balls to do that. i have 20% on all my windows and i had that on my porsche also and i have got pulled over for tint twice now both were in my SHO (might be cuz its white so it looks darker?) both times they said that i should get it checked out because they didnt have there % reader thing in there car? i was like yea i will do that. haha thats so stupid they said that i should get it checked out. thats like telling me to turn myself in for robbing a bank. i still to this day havent told them what % i have. i didnt get any ticket but next time if i get pulled over by the same cop iam screwed.
