I am working on my sister's '99 SHO (again) and was wondering if anyone replaced the gasket on their front valve cover? I see there's engine wiring going over it, do I need to disconnect all of it and move it completely out of the way? Seems like a major pain to have to do that. It looks like one wire goes way down somewhere, does it go to the crank sensor? If so, how do I get to it? Just wondering if anyone out there has done this before and what was needed to be done to replace the front valve cover gasket w/o too much hassle. My plan is to tackle this tomorrow assuming the dealer has all the gaskets. Thanks for any help you can offer.

It's easy. Take off everything you think should come off, vanity cover, coil pack, that little silver box, they take the bolts out of the valve cover. I just did the front and rear this past winter and it really wasn't too bad. The rear is kind of a pain though. Front is a piece of cake. Good luck!

Pretty much what 97SHOgt said. I found it easiest to bungee the looms out the way. That way when slapping the covers back on it's not a PITA. Also don't forget to dab some gasket sealer on the three spots on the head, two toward the accessory side and some on the **** near the water pump side. Had all mine done today while I had the cams welded up and chomed the runners/valve covers. Good luck with it.

Thanks to 97SHOgt and to you, SHO U UP for your replies. So I don't have to disconnect those wires? There's enough room to bungee 'em out of the way?

Might help to disconnect the wire going to the switch in the AC line.
