I am trying to remove my front strut rod from the subframe and can not seem to figure out how the thing is removed in the front.

Is that flare thing supposed to be removed? I cant see a way for it to come out, but I know it went in there somehow...

On a related note, i removed my SFB's yesterday and holy crap! i recommend that everyone replace theirs! I live in the snow belt, so i know my car has seen its share of water and salt, but good gravy! those things were ridiculous!

The 'flare thing' is the washer that fits between the rod and the rubber piece. It must come off. Unfortunately, they generally rust themselves onto the rod, and are a pita to get off. A Dremel or die grinder is often required to cut that washer off. Then, the rubber piece is often vulcanized to the rod as well, so you may well have to cut that off too. In some cases, after you get the rubber piece off, then the washer will come off okay.

Just another day in paradise, working on rusty fasteners.....

Tell me about it. Everytime i pull a fastener right through the body, i cry a little inside.

Thanks for the input on the SRC.

I've found it easiest to keep the lower control arm attached to the other end and use that as leverage, either to just yank on it or beat it with a Ford wrench. If you want to replace yours with some rust free rods I can go junk yard hopping for ya... Just an idea...

thanks Chris. Ill keep that in mind!
For the moment, i have started the Blaster treatment. Im still waiting on the engine gaskets and seals to arrive, so I have some time before it will be back on the subframe.

My dad and i were joking about using a sawzall to cut the SRC's off. That would make a hilarious youtube video, i think.
