I see 2 different Monroe strut mounts, one that looks like the oem version, and another that looks like a plate and bowl setup. I don't seem to be able to find any front strut mounts that are not made by Monroe.

Any input on the differences between the two Monroe versions, and the availability of other manufacturers' options?

Have you looked on RockAuto? I checked for my 2011 and they have 6 different brands of front strut mounts and two options from Monroe.

ford part number FB5Z-18183-A

Motorcraft AD1147
I am seeing Monroe 909916.
The only difference in the visual between the Motorcraft and the Monroe is one has the circular molded gasket stuff seperate and the Motorcraft looks like it is already integrated.

I think I saw oem for $30-45 online (w/o ship)

I made the mistake of using my phone to search for this stuff while at work. Being able to be more fluid on the computer once I got home allowed me to find various options.

I did see 2 monroe mounts eventually. I think advance auto. Another site said one part matching a 2011 Flex with the newer part designated for the 13+ Flex. Monroe actual site matched the 909916 without the other pn. Maybe just a supercede issue?

I dunno, luigi. I know that until I got home, I thought that only those two from Monroe were available, and one of them I was pretty doubtful of. Turns out I got the Monroes anyway.

SGT, I doubt it. I'm pretty sure mine came with the vehicle. I didn't notice that they were bad, but I was informed by my mechanic, and once he showed me what the top of the strut was doing, I realized why they were making so much noise. Even though I technically only need one, I just got both, and the spring insulators for the bottom of the strut too.

Thing was, until I took them apart, nothing was wrong. It was swapping the springs that caused the mount to give up the ghost. I guess the old spring was holding things together.

Oh, you'll know you need them when your strut starts banging around during bumps. That's what mine was doing - sounded like the car was trying to fall apart.

Soooo ...

... update, didn't need strut mounts. I was really dumb, and because I could screw the mount unto the top of the shock without using a compressor on the spring, I thought I didn't need to use a compressor on the spring.

Use a compressor on the spring. Doesn't need as much compression, but it sure needs some, otherwise your mount won't sit on the piston's shelf. Now, my mounts did have some wear and tear, and a bit of shredded rubber, so I went ahead and used the stuff I had bought, but I didn't really need to.

Don't be dumb like me and not use the compressor.
