For some reason the fronts are stuck on the hubs. There's no rust anywhere underneath this
Texas garage queen, except the rotors and front axle threads. The book says to apply penetrant and tap w/plastic mallet. This doesn't budge the rotors; anyone have any ideas so I don't have to rent a special puller for this? Thanks,
Mike

Have you removed the caliper? Just checking. You may need to apply force to pop the rotor free with a breaker bar and then hit from the inside with a rubber mallet. The rear rotors are usually on so long that I have had to use this method to remove them even on a rust-free Texas car.

Srfdude,
Sorry I missed you when you picked her up in Midland. I was picking up my sho in Dallas the same day. Best of luck with the new sho, and it sounds like this problem is relatively minor (knock on wood) and hope you enjoy the new sho. Glad I could help.

Thanks, Jeremy. She's a beaut, nice to have such a nice car. Too bad we didn't get to hook up, I would have liked to have seen your car. Oh well, maybe the next time I get to Texas?

Well, I'm a little reluctant to add more force to the front suspension; the back doesn't worry me. I tried prying on it but not too hard. Guess its time for the puller. I just called AZ looking for new rotors and the guy didn't know what a SHO is; good help is hard to find....talked to someone else and he said the '95 had the same part no. for both SHO and SLO. Is this right?

AutoZone.com shows the same front brake rotor part number for both the SHO and the 3.8L Taurus. You may want to check other parts sources.

There is a special tool for rotor removal. It should be specified in the helms manual, but it isn't. You'll need one(1) Mallet removal tool, Part# BFH (big f@$%@$& hammer)
I would hit front to rear on the rotor, not directly so as to minimize shock to the driveshaft/transaxle.

Some rotors have back-out screw holes in the hub. Just find the right screw size, insert and twist! Had to do this on my wife's Eclipse. Pounded the crap out if the rotor with hammers, etc. wouldn't budge. Screws made it back right off. Not sure if the SHO rotor has these, never looked.

Just did 96 brake upgrade on my 95. Got all parts at NAPA. Put on Carbon Cerrmic Pads. THE CAR NOW STOPS !
Had to use BFH to get one front roter off. was rusted bad.

PS Minimal dust with these pads. eek!
