In prepraration for this process consider purchasing the following:
new seal, new timing belt, new water pump, and a new Crankshaft position sensor. Why? because you will spend a ton of time getting access to this thing that you should do some efficient replacement of these items while you are in there.
Remove the crank bolt (use the bump start method with a 19 mm socket on a breaker bar).
Take out the battery, tray, remove the belts, remove the crossover tube, remove the upper timing cover (this of course is easiest if you move the PS pump reservoir and the motor dampening shock).
Remove the crank using a wheel puller
Remove the lower timing cover, remove the middle timing cover (the CPS line is secured to the middle cover so it will have to be detached.
Detension the timing belt and remove it.
Remove the crank sprocket.
At this point you can see the front main seal and can replace it. You need to punch or drill a small hole into the middle of the seal being very very careful not to nick the edges or go to deep...just pierce the surface of the metal ring enough to get a a screw into the hole. Grab the screw and pull the old seal out. Grease the new seal inside the ridge and tap it in smoothly and evenly using a matching piece of pvc.
