I have a 1993 MTX. Here's my problem. Whenever I hit the brakes hard, there is a knocking noise ("knock, knock, knock, knock, knock") that comes from the front end of the car. If I accellerate after braking hard, there is a knock (same knock). Back in the summer, I noticed that it did it more when it was wet or raining. I can't tell now because there is snow on the ground so it is always wet. I thought it may be the brakes, but I just replaced the calipers, rotors, and pads all around. It sounds/feels like the knock is coming from closer to the middle of the engine compartment. I think it may have something to do with the ABS, since I notice it more when it is wet, but the ABS seems to work just fine. I also noticed that when I brake, it doesn't feel like full power is going to the brakes. I always thought this was just because I was just running on front brakes, but it still feels that way after I replaced the brakes. It stops better but not to the fullest I don't think. Oh, the other day I noticed it doing it simply from turning, so it may have something to do with the steering gear. But it definately does it EVERY time I brake hard.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you did your brakes, did you notice thick grease on the inside of the wheel? Could be a Consant velocity shaft needing replacement... When those go out, you will notice a clicking noise from the wheels when you accelerate or go around turns. Are you sure you are hearing it from the middle of the car and not both sides?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is not the CV joints, at least not the outers. I no there was not any grease on the inside of the wheel. I originally thought it was a CV, but the more I drive it, the more I notice that it is coming from the middle and not the sides. I've personally had a CV go out on my previous car (an ******) and replaced that. On my Taurus, the right balljoint broke while I was driving and pulled the CV right out on that side, so that was replaced by a shop. But if it is a CV, hopefully it is the right, cause that is still under warranty. It could an inner CV, but if it were a CV, I imagine I would hear it more, not just when braking hard or accelerating afterward. Any other ideas?
