Ok, I've done a search first on this issue (to hopefully find something before posting a repetitive question), but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I'll describe my problem here and hopefully someone out there can help me out.
I did the front brakes on the ATX over the summer with new pads and resurfaced rotors. When I got it all back together and took it for a spin, the whole front end shook violently under even moderate braking at 30mph. I took everything apart and put it all back together again...same result. I figured it must have been a bad resurfacing job on the rotors so I took it back to NAPA and had them redo them to make them even. They did that and I went home and put the brakes back together again. The shaking was gone but now there was a squeak. (As a sidenote, I realize that these 2 events may be unrelated but I'm just telling the whole story in case they might somehow be linked.) Ever since then, I've had this squeaking/chirping coming from the front brakes. It's not "squealing" like when the pads are worn down or anything...it's actually a "chirping" when I press the brake pedal. And it doesn't happen when I brake firmly...it only happens when I brake lightly or when I start to let up off the brakes. When the brakes aren't applied at all and also when they're applied FULLY, there's no noises. (And the brakes work fine, too, by the way. It's just that if I brake lightly in traffic or when going around a parking lot or whatever, they chirp like crazy and it's annoying the heck out of me! I'm wondering if it's something rubbing against the backing clip or caliper bracket or something, but I just can't figure it out.) And the chirping noise is really loud and rhythmic. Any ideas what it could be? (I did the 96 Brake Upgrade a couple years ago so I have new caliper brackets on there and then new pads from the brake job this summer.) Any suggestions/ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!
