I’m bringing this thread back! I’m interested in doing this snorkel delete instead of buying a $300 intake. However, I’m wondering if anyone can tell me, is the intake box secure enough while sitting in there without it being mounted to the frame? It is usually mounted to the snorkel which is bolted to the frame.

Well the lower portion of the air box is mounted to the chassis. The 2 bolts just hold the snorkel in place.

Is it? In the description of how to remove the snorkel the OP said to remove the bottom part of the box but didn’t mention any other mounts or screws to take off the lower half, other than the 2 screws holding snorkel to the fender and the 3rd screw holding the snorkel onto the box.

The lower part of the box just push’s in on some brackets. Kind of stud with a ball on the end and push’s into a rubber hole. Kind of hard to describe. If you go out to your car and remove the upper box and snorkel. You’ll see what I’m taking about. Takes 5 min.

How many have done this to their air box ?

I finished mine today. I can tell you that with the stock filter their is no difference in sound or performance. I’m throwing an AEM Dryflow Tuesday and I’ll repost back. It was super easy to do though.

Idk mine is stock I put in a kn drop in last week , I feel like car lost a lil power wasn’t smooth. Put the stock filter in feels way better. Definetly curious to see with the mod and a more air flow filter what happens. Would like a lil whoosh sound though.

Yea I’m looking for some turbo noise as well. I’ll definitely chime back in. If you have a k&n handy just take 10-15 minutes and remove the snorkel and throw the k&n in. All I did to remove one tab was use a tiny drill bit to carefully shave it down far enough to pull the tube out.

So, if I understand correctly, this mod involves just removing the snorkel that goes into the grill area to pick up outside cool air and leaving the hole in the airbox inside the engine compartment to pick up hotter air?

You’re partially correct lol. People have found that during city driving conditions the gaping hole will pick up hotter air. No brainer, right? But once you start rolling the amount of air able to enter the larger hole, coupled with it being outside air still rushing in, makes for slightly more power. That’s suspect though. I’m doing it just for more turbo noise and seeing if the heat soak is noticeable. It’s easy enough to reinstall so, why not? Lol

Well, put an AEM dry flow filter in it and still no distinct turbo noise. Oh well, snorkel going back on. I’m just a tad disappointed thinking it’d be similar to an aftermarket intake.

These puny turbos don't really make any noise anyway as far as im concerned. But im used to the scream of a 6.0 powerstroke with a 10 blade turbine. it'l make your ears bleed. youtube it, it will make you jealous

Haha nice. The plan is to pay this off in 3 years and have it and a 7.3 or 6.0!
