What torque numbers are you using for the strut pinch bolt?

I am planning to cut the tabs off of my struts, and lower it as much as possible before I get my new suspension aligned, but the thought of NOT having those tabs to support the struts sends shivers down my back eek!

Be careful about doing that ... you will need to take some specific measurements on all 4 corners to make sure its level. As for lowering it as far as it can go - dont go too low because the bottom of the strut WILL and HAS caught the CV boot and torn it to shreds. And we all know what axle grease does to brakes...

I can do it on my car but I am VERY wary of doing it

Im only looking for 1/2 an inch or so, and am planning to use hose clamps on the struts for referrence.

So...

Torque?

I think I used whatever the regular torque spec is for the pinch bolt.

I only cut out about part of the tab and left the top of the tab there for a reference.

Kenny, those tabs are not load bearing. They are strictly for alignment. I'd be more weary of a 3/16ths inch wide piece of steel tack welded to the strut for support. :)

mmm, hose clamps.....(for those who know my race car you'll get it)

I like that thinking, here's a guy who is using his bean. Measure with the steel ruler and you got it. Good job.

Agreed, the tabs are not what holds up the car. But do be sure you get the pinch bolt tight.

Porkchop:
you cut coils
Check this thread:
http://www.shoforum.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=005250

I cut one dead coil out of the front Moog CC.
It gave me a near-stock ride height.

Im just looking for a bit of a drop, without loosing strut dampening.

I dont know your car, but I do know that hose clamps have just as many, or more uses than duct tape :D

Hose clamps are great thumb

::UPDATE::

No go.

After taking a look at the current setup, Im not going to touch it. Im not worried about the strut to CV issue... it is the tire to spring pearch!

Right now, with stock basketweaves, and stock size 215/65TR15 Bridgestone Turanza's, I only have about 5/8 of an inch madflame

oh well.

At least she handles awesome
:)

Looks like you ran into the same problem as I did. I had all these hopes of lowering my car another inch, but the tires would only allow about a millimeter of lowering before they got dangerously close to the spring perch. Even now I can't fit a pencil between the tire and the perch... I hope I dont catch any rocks.

This is not an efficient way to lower the car.
