Anyone done a forscan sync 2 to 3 upgrade yet on one of our taurus? Looks fairly simple and it's pretty well documented on the fusion/f150 pages so I think I can get it. Working on sourcing some parts currently then gonna try it, hopefully be in it under $500. Sync 2 is garbage imo, mine is always either messing up or loading something and I would love to have Waze on the screen. Currently have a 2013 sho which is pre lane assist, another area I plan to delve in while playing with forscan. Looks like the only difference in the lane assist cars is the mirror, after that I'm hoping I can reprogram the modules with forscan to "turn it on". Found the mirror as low as $50... much better than what ford probably tacks on from the factory for that feature. If anyone has gotten deep in forscan I would appreciate any insight on this as I'm kinda just going blind. I've only done simple things like adding the awd monitoring screen and such with it so far but I dont see why it shouldn't work. If anyone also has a 16+ without adaptive cruise, lane assist, or massage seats I could really use a copy of the as built data to help with programming the sync 3

The think with lane-assist is your 2013 modules might not be capable of it. It's one thing to enable it on a car of a certain vintage where other models had lane-assist, it's quite another to enable it when the feature wasn't available on other models.

I may be in the minority, but having had both I trade my sync 3 for 2 in a heartbeat.
Plugging my phone in everytime just to use android auto is not a plus. The way it reads text messages outloud is much worse imo. Also amazingly its voice recognition is not near as accurate. The only thing 3 has is a much more responsive screen. Even that only matters for the 15 seconds I need to touch the thing when I drive.

It was available on the 13 Lincoln's of equivelant model so I'm hoping that they used the same modules and just turned it off in the sho. A guy on YouTube managed to do it on a 13 but didint say anything about how he programmed it in. Just got a new obd adapter so going to test this theory today just dont have the parts here yet.

Interesting that you would choose 2 over 3, didint know 3 was that buggy too. I dont bother with the hands free calling or text assist, lol I just make people wait till so that wont be much an issue to me. I heard you could get waze on sync 3 3.0 without connecting your phone though so I'm hoping that's true because I agree with the hassle of having to plug in every time

I love Sync 3 over 2. Haven't had a single issue with it, although some of the text-to-English translation is slightly funkier than Sync 2, but overall it's quite an improvement. It even plays FLAC format files off USB.

Sync 2 layout just drives me crazy it makes the car feel old since it's not very responsive and primitive for a touch screen. Plus then it will be like upgrading to a 16+ sho for the cost of >500. If I can be successful in this and lane assist I may just have to track down a pair of massage seats, anyone have them are they worth it or more of a gimmic?

See I like Sync 2 layout. It feels more at home in a vehicle to me. Sync 3 reminds me of windows 95. Yes sync 2s screen is unresponsive and slow, but again I don't need to touch it much.

I've done it twice, SYNC with nav to SYNC3 without nav and then to SYNC3 with nav. Keeping it under $500 shouldn't be an issue with a used APIM and screen. You will also need a fakra connector GPS antenna, USB hub and trim ring, harness for USB hub. I would just buy a premade adapter harness from 4Dtech.com to avoid having to buy the pigtail and splice.

Agreed. I didn't know about FLAC. I'm going to have to update my library now.

Is the harness your talking about for the usb power? Forgot about that in the console I'll have to get that, already ordered a GPS antenna.

Really need some as built ipc data from a newer sho with lane assist, starting to think the ipc may need to be swapped as well for the lane assist

Seems I can turn on adaptive cruise but not lane assist for some reason. That was just with the dummy switches on forscan tho hoping as built will reveal the difference

Yes, the newer cars have just 2 USB connetions no SD card since nav maps are on the APIM and no RCAs. You need the newer one for Carplay to work anyway.

With that adapter to power the usb is the rest plug and play or does it need to be "modified"? Remember seeing a video where the guy broke the proprietary ford connector off the usb hub to reveal that it was just as standard micro usb port. Cant remember if he had to run a new wire or splice tho watched about 50 videos now but nobody has done the taurus specifically yet. Did your apim's come out of other taurus's? I would like to get one from something else, from my digging on car-part other makes are much cheaper for some reason. Nav isint the most important to me I probably wont use it since waze and now also Google allow police reporting. just would want it since it was factory

The main connectors on the APIMs are the same SYNC2 and SYNC3 so it's plug and play except for the USB hub whcih if you get the 4Dtech adapter you don't need to splice anything. The worst part of the whole swap is how many pieces of dash/center console need to come off to swap them. I got a Taurus APIM/screen as the prices didn't seem much different when I was looking so at that point it was just easier. If you get one from another vehicle you just may need to swap the mounting brackets from your old APIM to fit the Taurus dash.

Added bonus the new USB hub charges my phone a lot faster then the SYNC2 hub

Heres a site with all the parts for sale. https://flvpmods.square.site/ I am looking into upgrading to SYNC3 but I cant decide if I should get the non-nav or the nav APIM. Any input on this? I've been leaning toward the non nav since you can use android auto (I have a Samsung S9+) to display maps on the screen, only thing is I dislike having to plug in my phone each time. So im stuck on if i should spend the extra money for nav.

The hardest part for me was most yards I was shopping had no idea if it was a Nav APIM. I would get the VIN and run through the old version of ETIS to see. I started non Nav and then when I found a Nav APIM I bought the whole thing with screen and sold the non Nav. If I was doing it again I probably would not bother since now with CarPlay or Android auto in your case there is no need.

With android auto you can text while driving through text to speech. The google maps dont require a subscription from Sirius for the travel li k to work (the traffic congestion and rerouting info that goes along with it). Google maps is way better at finding your destination through voice comands. You dont have to pay for map updates.

The only thing that factory nav has for it is you dont need cell service. That's really the only advantage that I can think of.

Yea I don't see a real point in getting the NAV since I can use google maps. I tend to use my phone instead of the SYNC2 NAV in the car for the congestion info ect. now anyway. One thing I was wondering about google maps on SYNC3 is the new real time "speed trap" and "slow down" info that it gives out. Does this transfer onto the SYNC3? Is the android auto basically just casting my phone's google maps to the cars screen?
