I'm looking for the full speaker diagram for the SHO, as in what size speakers the SHO takes, and any special fittings/adapters needed for aftermarket speakers.

I know some cars have like 6 by 9s or whatever but what does the SHO have? Also, what is the easiest way to access the rear speakers and are the only speakers Front/Passenger Driver Panel and Rear Trunk Cover?

Thanks.

if its a gen 2 you are talking about IIRC the speakers are 5x8's in the rear, im not sure about the fronts, and to get to them just pop the speakers grills up with a screw driver and get a 5.5MM socket and take the screws out. All of this happens while you are in the back seat:thumb:

6.5" in the front, 6x8" in the rear for Gen 2s. With some very minor metalwork, 6x9"s will fit, and they sound a **** of a lot better. As for the rest... man, just go to crutchfield for all that stuff. The speaker wires are 14ga.

edit: ok, yeah, that was kinda mean. Sorry... I'm tired. I'll see if I can dig up some speaker wiring diagrams... Im pretty sure they're already on the forum, though.

From Shotimes:

1989-1991 The 1st Gen SHO's with JBL Audio System had 8 speaker drivers and two amps:

* A dual driver speaker (mid-woofer tweeter) mounted in each front door,
* (2) 5"x7" single cone drivers mounted in the rear deck
* (2) 6"x8" 'sub-woofer' driver mounted under each 5x7.
* A four channel amp rated at 15W RMS powered the front speakers and rear 5"x7"'s.
* A separate 85W RMS (single channel) amp powered the (2) 6"x8" woofers.
* Optional in-dash CD player ('90 and later only).

1992-1995 The 2nd Gen SHO had similar setup except the (2) 6"x8" woofers were replaced by a single subwoofer (6.5" polypropalyne cone, rubber surround woofer) in a custom sealed enclosure mounted in the center of the rear deck (underneath).

I have a '90 with the JBL system. I put 6x9's where the the 6x8's were originally. It took a little bit of work (nuts, bolts and spacers instead of simple screws), but worked out fine. With this size of speaker you've got a lot more choices, the usually sound better too.

The simplest thing to do in the back if you are going to an aftermarket stereo is to bypass the amps and get rid of them (using a bypass cable most car audio places can get). Then only use the 6x9(or 8) and get rid of the 5x7 rack and speakers. It helps to have two people on this one, one in the trunk, one in the back seat.

The doors are easy, 6.5's and the will screw right in, usually. I have Sony's an I had to drill holes in the metal speaker frame to get the threaded holes to line up. No matter how I turned the speaker, I couldn't get the threaded holes to line up right. The biggest problem I had was Ford not giving me enough slack speaker wire.

I'm with hawkeye on Crutchfield. Great selection and good prices. Read my sig, the subs and box were only $130, well $110 for me, but I was lucky enough to fall on a scratch and dent.

Making cars loud is fun.:dribble: Good luck:thumb:

I should have worded the topic differently because I dont actually need a wiring diagram. I can hook up speakers. I just needed to know what size speakers for a generation 2. What kind of minor modifications are necessary to mount 6x9?

Hey, appreciate the searching, but since the ops post from eight years ago isn't related to yours, you may want to start a new thread for your particular issue.
