I was trying to envision the other day if they would look good at all with a black chrome finish instead of getting rid of the chrome. Not a big fan of chrome.

You should've come to the convention car SHOw then because MRT had their SEMA SHO there. They darkened out all of the chrome on their car.

Yeah, separating the gearing from the 20" wheels would be nice. I would rather have 19" or even 18" wheels to save the weight and get some gearing, and put sticky tires on those. Sticky summer tires rock!

I've actually spoken to an engineer on the new SHO that told me the original engineering plan was that the 12S would get the lighter 19's with the Goodyears, but marketing won out saying that if it costs extra, it should be bigger

For 1 I dont understand why the 12s package cant come with a spare.. The non 12s owners with 20s have a spare in the trunk.

I'm going to assume weight reduction, considering it is one of the single heaviest things in the car and non-functional most of the time.

Got to be honest here.
1. paint was peeling
2. intercooler is fake (stuck my hands in the blue silicones)
3. wheels were ugly IMO
4. the guy they sent was cool though.. But he knew not one thing about the car.. :(
5. I like the hood!

For a lot of folks, the back seat is also non-functional most of the time.....

Anyway, I haven't had many flats over the last 20 years, but IIRC at least two of the three or four were due to a sidewall puncture, plus the one flat on the Del Sol was a sidewall hole.

That fix-a-flat-kit-that-the-Owners-Manual-says-not-to-use isn't worth squat under those circumstances.

I agree completely. That car was bit a of a pile for a 2010 show car. I was just demo-ing the black chrome. Do you know if the scoop on the hood is functional BTW? I was looking closely at it and it didn't seem to have an opening in the back and I never got to see under the hood.

With the fix-a-flat, I also agree, it isn't worth squat, but doesn't the new SHO come with some sort of Ford roadside assistance program, like a Ford AAA? For me, I think I would take that over the extra weight, since as you mentioned it is a very rare occurrence to have a flat, but less weight helps performance all of the time.

I have AAA, but I can change a tire in less time than it takes AAA to get there. Plus, if the tire is trashed (as in a sidewall puncture), how many hours/days am I inconvenienced getting another tire?

I can pull the spare tire for the drags or a track. On the street, that's "good" weight. Unlike my younger days, I now drive when I have to be somewhere to do something, as opposed to pleasure drives. A flat is a serious inconvenience if I have to wait, then deal with a replacement.

Call me old-fashioned (shut up, Kirk!!), but I would like a spare tire like the 19"-wheel SHOs get.

I did the 18"s on my EcoBrick and shaved 15 lbs a wheel off the 63 lb 20"s that came on Flex. Max performance Continental Extreme DW's (255-45-18 XL-extra load rated) really make this 4,700 lb wagon turn like it's on rails (compared to stock...). DW is now TireRack's #1 rated Extreme Performance tire. It bites so well, that even with a boosted tune and with the axle ratio adjusted to 3.40 due to 2" smaller than stock tires, I only get a nice churp when I floor it at a dead stop. Ride is still great, though a bit firmer. Tried power braking it, which spun the tires nicely, but am afraid it's pretty ******* tranny....:sun:

Engage the e-brake just one click first, so it's not really putting on the brake, but the parking brake light comes on in the dash. The computer will then disengage the rear wheel drive. This will allow for nice FWD burnouts

My wish list would be

* At least 425 hp to be competitive power wise with the SRT8 line. I would love to see a car this size running 12's although it might take more power than that.

* Better brakes
* Styling that sets it apart from a regular Taurus
* Offer different tire choices with the performance package. I would rather have the option to run the standard higher tread rated non performance package tires. With the AWD I don't really have a need for the stickier lower tread rated tires so getting more miles out of them is nice.
* Be able to get adaptive cruise with the performance package. I love this feature!
* Better speaker package option. The Sony package is ok but I still don't think the sound is there for this class of car.
* Probably wouldn't happen without a major redesign but the trunk is ridiculously huge. I would easily trade some of that space to push that back seat back a bit for some more leg room. The rear leg room isn't bad by any means but when I look at the size of the car it seems like there should be more.

This is all pretty minor because overall the current car is great. I'm still impressed with the ride and quietness of it. It just makes a lot of other nice cars feel cheap now.

#1 More power
#2 Better Brakes

There are guys....(Livernois Motorsports) that are running 12.60's with just a tune on the current platfrom.....

I've got a spare with my 20" wheels......no performance package though....

I had my Lightning wheels repaired under warranty and the they nicked one of the repaired rims putting them on. I made them order me a new one and they forgot to ask for the old one back. It was nice having a full same rim spare.

Would be nice to see Fords idea of cosmetic changes, I personally would settle for this along with a functional version of the hood scoop add 400+ HP and we have a **** of a winner.... Guess time will tell.

Yep I told you that last September... But we found out that it does not work on them all.. looks like the early ones only.

You can also pull underdash fuse 14..

Mine does FWD burnouts and Bill Jaynes's car did not.. we did not pull the fuse though just the ebrake.

hmm, that's weird I drove an early build SHO and a Fusion Sport AWD last year that both did it. It sounds like you have the fix with fuse #14 anyways. too bad there wasn't a fuse for RWD, although from what I've heard the diff and PTO aren't designed for full power for prolonged periods of time, so it would probably grenade.

Still though a base model Taurus better speakers, seats, less noise canceling crap, and a TT 3.7L ECO boost V6. That would be perfect, but as it stands that’s the main reason why I won’t touch it. If I get it I’d start stripping everything off of it and I still can’t get over how big the rear end is. It would be a grate EVO killer but its still a tank.
