I was just wondering what A/R ratio of your compressor and turbine housings are, and what your thoughts were on the best A/R for street driven application. There are a couple of different 60-1's that I am looking at but they have different turbine A/R's. There is a 62-1 that I am thinking about too, any thoughts? Thanks, Chris.

I have considered the 62-1 as well, but until I feel the current compressor is holding me back I am hesitant to drop any money in that area. As far as A/R, I honestly have no idea. My entire system is recieving a thorough working over in the next few weeks. Spring promises some great things! As soon as I have it all apart and some info it will be posted.

Can't wait till it's up and running again! I think I will try for this 62-1 then. It's still less than 500 bucks right now. It has a .63 A/R so it should spool up relatively quickly. Since it's slightly larger it shouldn't have any problems producing at higher rpm's despite the lower A/R ratio. I think if I went with a 60-1 I would want something in the .70-.80 range. Still interested in your numbers when you get them though, so I can gauge how far off base I am  . Thanks for the input, heres to 500 horses beer .

How long have you had the infamous Turbo SHO? It's funny how Tim is like a celebrity on this forum. Hehe.

Ok, I bow before the Turbo SHO it's a sweet thing, but I'm wondering why anyone even attempts this. I have thought about it as I am sure we all have, but have you people seen how long 3rd gear lasted Tim? I mean really can you afford to swap in gear sets and trannies ever 4 oil changes? I'm highly doubt it, 300ft lbs of torque is quiet safe on a cyroed set of gears and input shaft. thats close to a 400hp SHO, I have seen 400hp rwd cars running high 10's on slicks so really on the freeway you'd be able to keep pace with those kinda cars, that is plenty enough power for you. And then you don't have to sit and wait for third gear to kiss itself goodbye. So why not go with a 9PSI supercharger and some other mods and be just fine?

Low end torque and cost. Neither one the centrifugal can compete with a turbo on. A well sized turbo spools faster and has a better power curve than a centrifugal supercharger. And it would be pretty wasy to put a turbo kit together for a lot cheaper than the SS $4500 for their basic kit.

turbo RULZ!!! That's why!!

Seriously though, while I have had my butt handed to me on two separate occasions by a very stout S/C'd SHO, the tuning for the SHOspeed Project is beginning. Granted, 3rd gear will not last long (even cryo'd), but oh what fun it is while it last!!! I will be looking into getting a custom heavy duty gearset, or talking to someone who can get them, very soon.

Because right now the only thing making those numbers unreliable is the gear problem. I believe it won't be long until that problem is solved.

There is a huge difference in 100hp, and there is never enough power. evil_gri I think your advice is pretty good, just not for everyone. Situations are different. Besides I bought my turbo for 650, at least a thousand less than a supercharger.

I'm not saying the turbo SHO doesn't own, because it really does. And soon we'll see over 500hp and 500ft lbs of torque which is amazing. But there is already a fix for the gearset munkee, its the heavy duty one thats been produced. It comes in runs of 4 so you need 4 buyers to drop $6,000 each. No 4 buyers no gearsets and input shaft. Shot peening hasn't been tried, so we'll see I think some guys are going to try that too. Like I said you'd have the equvilent of a high 10 second car with 400hp, and if that isn't good enough get a nice shot of gggle gas seeing as I'm sure the engine would be low compression. Just make sure not to use that till 4th gear and I'm sure that will help you plenty enough. But yes I do know what your saying by price, there is a huge diffrence like $1,300 to build your own turbo kit and $4,500 for SC'ed kits.

Yeah, I would like 500 out of my setup but I don't think I would want to drive it like that all the time. I would like a setting for low boost for daily driving and a setting for high boost for tracking etc. I considered nitrous too, but then it wasn't to get to the 500 mark either. naughty Again, I think your advice is good, a 500hp turbo isn't probably for everyone. It would be nice if there was a kit that started out at @320hp and then you could upgrade it to different levels. Hmmm.....

It cracks me up how people down superchargers and they probably never seen or ridden in one. All they know is what they read.

I'm kinda proud that we have become the red-headed stepchild of boost.

Why haven't more people turbo their SHO? I do love Tim's car....it is done right and an awesome machine. I know and seen the pics of the other turbo but I have my doubts on it...even if the thing runs or not.

So here is my prediction: By summertime over I'm over 500hp....does anyone believe me? oh well didn't think so....

I'll take one of each! thumb I had actually started planning a supercharged system using a Procharger unit. It wasn't until Tim bought his car that I started looking into a turbo. Just didn't know much about them then. I think by years end both systems will have reached the 500 mark and be running reliably.

What!? eek! You mean you aren't impressed with the "junkyard wars" car? It runs 12's! Your out there man. :p rofl

Mike, how about a friendly 'Horsepower War'? Perhaps a small wager (beer tab on 6th street for instance :D ) for the first to reach 500whp :D
