Hi,

I bought a 2015 SHO a month ago. I just got it back after a week at the dealer. With 22,500 miles, the PTU cracked and spewed gear oil all over my driveway. Now that we're done with that unpleasantness, I'm looking forward to getting back to enjoying the car.

What are my chances of not having any more issues? From what I've been reading, I guess I'm going to need to familiarize myself with the fluid change procedure. I guess an extended warranty may not be a bad idea, either, when the drivetrain warranty expires?

Other than that, the car is great. The only thing that somewhat annoys me is when I have cruise control on and start going downhill, it seems to me that the car brakes pretty aggressively.

Welcome, Allogt, and congrats on the new ride! It sucks having the PTU go so early, but not knowing the previous owner's history ... Better to go early and under warranty! Yes, regular maintenance of fluids in the vehicle is highly recommended. But you have time to find a good shop that can perform the PTU/RDU service for you if you do not want to DIY.

Personally I recommend an extended warranty regardless on newer vehicles because of the "extreme" costs associated with any particular incident (particularly at the dealer). Just 1 or 2 incidents (PTU, turbos, electronics) and the warranty will pay for itself. At least squirrel money away assuming up to $4000 in major repairs over ownership time.

If you do decide to buy the extended warranty, shop online. Lombardfordwarrantys.com, floodfordesp.com, www.zeiglerfordesp.com, andersonandkoch-ford-warranty.com, etc are good places to buy from. Sometimes a local dealer will match and roll into the payments if you want to try that.
