Ok so this is the second time i've had the flex pipe replaced 200k and living in the salt belt explains this but i dropped my car off and look what i found! (see pictures)

Ok i'm no exhaust expert, but the first thing is that flex pipe looks like it for a friggin honda or toyota accord/corolla, the one i had on was similar to stock 8 inches long and was welded to a ****** then bolted to my $500 dollar stainless high flow y-pipe!! They welded it straight on omg! And be sure to notice the sloppy welding.

Yeah well needless to say i'm frustrated and am going to bring it back when i have a break from work.

Questions:
Is this a normal practice to replace a flex pipe to first add an extension then skip welding on a ******? Am i right to be angry or am i taking this too far?

I'm noticing a vibration that i've never noticed in the 8 years i've owned my car, coming right at the center console..right above the flexpipe.

Wouldn't an improper flex pipe cause problems later down the road? I'm not exactly sure what a flex pipe does, something to do with vibration?

Well any information or comments would be appreciated.

That is some pretty ****** work. They don't know what they are doing. They should have welded the pipe to a ****** then used a gasket in there. The flex pipe itself should be ok.

Isn't it supposed to bolt to the y pipe and clamp or weld to the resonator? I don't see why it wouldn't work but what happens when you need another? Does it cost you a y pipe too? I would get a second opinion from some place that likes to charge for unnecessary work.

phew, atleast you didnt have the stainless y-pipe on... id be ****** if they welded it on the stainless y-pipe!. but yeah i dont see anyproblems with how its rigged up Minus the fact if u need to replace it its gonna be a PITA!! that and id guess it would of been a tad better if the flex part was closer to the y-pipe.

p.s. the flex pipe is there so when your motor torques up your exhuast doesnt torque up with it which can be bad. so when you gun it your motor tweaks on the rubber mounts a bit.

Boy do I wish I had a flex-pipe on when I race racing a honda and did a 1-2 shift...a second after that shift my car literaly got 10x's louder. I knew what I did so I just kept going, But I scared the crap out of the honda driver. Ha.

As Marcel said, the flex pipe itself is fine, but the welds look like ass, and welding the pipe directly to your y-pipe is unacceptable.

I'd go back and demand they fix it, or pay for a new y-pipe.
