Looking into buying a 1996 SHO. It has 136k on it. Everything seems stock. He wants $2700 its a dealer. Also is it easy to check if the welds have been done? Any other things to check? Thanks guys!

You have to pull the valve covers to see if the cams have been welded. You really need to remove BOTH covers. The transmissions are the other maor failure point mechanically.

As far a rust, look under the car at the rocker panel to floor pan pinch welds and under the rocker covers. Also the floor pan underneath the driver and front passenger floormats.

As long as it's mechanically in good shape and not rusted to pieces, $2700 is a pretty good price.

I checked it out today, and it looked pretty good, only apparent rust were bubbles over rear wheel wells. Tranny shifted tight, and the fluid had no odor and was red. I did not check the welds though. I am guessing they are not done, as the rest of the car is bone stock. Anyone know of any place in WI that does this procedure if, when I do get in there and look it is not done? And does anyone have a pic of before and after welds? Thanks guys.

Generally, if a car is welded, the seller knows it and announces it. My guess is it is probably not welded too.

Performance Plus, in Madison, is an experienced camwelder in Wisconsin.

If you get down to the Chicago area, I'll pull your front valve cover for a quick look for free, but that will only tell you if the fronts have been welded. Front cams are easy to get at, rear ones are a little more of a commitment.
