Had a bad fuel smell and horrible mileage, checked codes OK. Got a 116, 556, or 557 do not remember, paper is lost! Changed the ECT and new 195 thermostat, I checked for bad ground. Still no improvement. Then went to check code again and now the check engine light stays on and does not blink, engine will not start but turns over well.

I disconected the battery to see if a reset was in order but to no avail.

This has been a trouble free car for 3 years, sans maintenance of course. We have 6 SHO's at this time all MTXs. 12 life time. None have had any 'spooks' yet until the White 93.

Check fuel, spark and air.

I'd bet your fuel pump is shot. Do you hear the pump prime whan you turn the key?

thanks Ken, car was running well be for the last time checking codes. This car has been parked for a week do to the afford mentioned problem with the fuel smell and mileage. But was running all that time and I was starting and driving it trying to fix it.

I forgot to mention that the temp gauge would stay on very low temp almost down to the blue. I changed the thermostat with a new one just in case.(195) Still no change in the indicated temp at the gauge, though the car would be up to running temperature after a long heat up/driving time. Would the sending unit for the gauge hamper ignition function?

Also I found a scrap piece of paper I used to take notes with and found the codes 211, 214. I'm not sure if it was running or with key on. could this be connected to the DIS?

***** and giggles

Just tried to run a wire from the DIS to a ground on the fender, no help. Thinking to exchange a DIS from and other running SHO to this one but I hesitate. There was a code indicating a ground problem with the fuel pump, causeing it to run continuously. I would hate to fry an others cars DIS. This car was running and giving codes for a week, now it will not do either. A short? Where? I've checked the known trouble spots of the intake and the five or six grounds that are intersperced around the fenders and front grile. No luck yet. Ideas? Questions for clearification?

PS. I have fuel in the rail.

What else to check?

No spark at plug #1. Fuel in the rail. Tried to read codes but check engine light stays on and does not blink. I have disconnected the battery to see if it(what ever the problem is) will reset, no luck.Tried running a ground to the DIS, still no change. Now I've noticed the cooling fan runs when ignition is turned on, still no start. I'm out of ideas, anyone have a suggestion.

tach works

The tach works during attempted starting, about 500 RPM. No spark. Would this be a component or a dead short? I did run a wire from the fender to the DIS and got no change from the above mentioned symptoms. So I was thinking to eliminate the manifold cross over tube as a short culprit. What am I missing? I know it is something stupid on my part.

Still the 'check engine' light stays on and does not blink as it should while attempting to test for codes. Fuel in the rail. Fan turns on with ignition? That's suspicious! Is anyone out there with an idea? Thanks.
