and though y'all might like to see. well i guess technically not finish as this be the only door panel that is done. but the rest are on the way. i've been searching for carbon fiber overlay for a long time now. something that at least looks close to real or what the factory would use to imitate carbon fiber. what i planned to do was use acutal carbon fiber and use a clear resin, but i figured that was too messy and would really cost more then it was worth. so as i was at pepboys the other day i was wondering around the ricer area and of course laughing at some of the stuff, i come across some carbon fiber overlay that looks very close to real. so i picked it up to try it out, if nothing else i could fall back on plan A. but it turned out really good. let me know what you guys think. the plan was always to get the top of the door sils and the dash to match, finally i think i can.

That definitely looks better than the fake wood. What are you going to do for the panel above the arm rest?

can you post up a closer pic? it looks like its kinda obvious it's an overlay not actual carbon, but hey, it still doesnt look bad. i also hate hating on peoples projects, but i think it looks a little off with the tan, just my opinion.:thumb:

Nice, I like it

I wonder what it would look like with a black interior? Maybe I will have to go to pepboys soon.

How hard was it to do?

actually i think it would look killer with black. it's a bit more gray/metal color then i had hoped. i was looking for a more black color. but i'll finish up all the doors and see how it all fits together. its not hard at all. not sure how it would work with the SHO door panels but these where easy, just pull out the staples, get the glue off and lay down the overlay. it looks good and it looks like something the factory would use which is good enough for me. :thumb:

I really like the top peices, a lot better than the wood. I personally wouldn't have used the middle sections, I think some perforated leather would look really hot in place of what was there. Either way, it came out really nice.

Could you use some nightshades or something of the sorts to darken it up?

actually that is just what i was thinking. i like it inside, it seems nice and dark but outside it just too much gray with the tan.. i may do the leather thing that also was my first idea. this was a trial to see what it would look like. i'll have to hit up jelloslug again and see where he got his leather. that might look better. thanks for the hints and tips guys!

I used a perforated vinyl made by Enduratex on my Sable panels. I'll have to do a little more research to find out which one I used but I'm fairly certain it was "Ebony Hampton Perforated". There are 3 different shades of tan in that material and it can be dyed with something like SEM vinyl dye if the color is not close enough. I really liked that material and I have considered using it and the non-perforated to reupholster my interior with.

LMK if you find any online suppliers for it. I had a really hard time finding a vendor last time I got some. Are you going to put the CF material on the wood on the dash also?

actually i swapped dash peices, the aluminum part, with my old sho. ( that was fun..) so it's the same as stock. i had planned to recover the dash as well so everything would match but i'll have to see how the two designs look together.

thanks! yep luckily the rust is very minimal, when i have it repainted mocha in a few months i'm having them fix all of those issues! the car has 150k miles if i remember right and no cancer showing in the rear qt panels. pretty good for the rust belt.

Thats good, and as well all know, the cancer sucks big time. Hope the underneath is clean too on your car, looks like a nice example of a Mocha. BTW, any engine shots?
