I wanted to post a final analysis on my Gearhead AO tune experience, not only to give those who have provided me with advice an update, but also for future searches.
Car is a '13 PP, with Gearhead AO tune and K&N drop in filter. No other mods.
First, performance numbers;
I started off earlier this summer with a 13.2 best et.
After a couple of datalogs and emails to Matt at Gearhead, he advised me to use a couple gallons of e85 mixed in with a tank, as the 93 octane I was using was crappy.
Next track day was a sudden decision to go, and although I had my ethenol blend in, I also had darn near a full tank.
However, this resulted in 12.7 at 107.
My final trip to the track for the season was this past weekend. Better air, and only 1/4 tank of e blended fuel.
The car went 12.602 at 110 mph. Also new best was 1.7 60 foot time.
My hopes were exceeded, performance wise, because really all I wanted was to break into the 12's. Numbers aside, it feels outstanding, by seat of the pants.
Now, street manners;
As pleased as I am with my 1/4 mile results, this is also an area where the car shines. The shifts are a work of art. Not noticeable. Whether just diving, or under throttle. I've never experienced something get a scratch during shifts, yet be smooth as butter.
Throttle response is instant and crisp, and everything acts nice and smooth, quiet, and tame, unless there's a call for power by my right foot. In which case that call is answered, with perfection.
I've heard of tunes sometimes causing disruptions in certain aspects of daily driving characteristics. I've not experienced this. In every aspect the car responds, reacts, and performs exactly how I want it to.
So to those of you who have taken the time and effort to provide me with input and advice, I appreciate it very much.
If you're new and researching, I hope this helps.
The car is going to be enjoyed for a few more weeks, then pulled into the garage for the winter where we'll go on to phase 2 mods.
Guys from Gearhead, if you read this, thank you very much. Looking forward to intercooler availability. (I know you just had some in stock. Literally the same time, I had a water pump failure, so I had to address that first )
