I've asked on here before about some problems ive been having with my sho. Its a 95 mtx with 96,*** miles. The problem was wot under 4 grand would produce little to no power but after 4 grand it ran like a beast. I took it to a local shop and they claimed to have checked all the sensors and said they were good. They also claimed my fuel pump was bad and installed a new one for 500 bones, still i have the problem. Today i took it to a local dealer and told them the problems, they checked it out and they say i need a new maf sensor and i need the trans fluid /filter changed to the tone of 450 bucks. My question is i thought i heard someone say the mtx never needs a fluid change, also did i just get screwed 500 bucks by the first shop or can a maf sensor go bad within a month, i even specificly asked them about the maf sensor cause i thought that could be it. Any help would be appreciated thanks much.

Are you saying the maf is one month old? Is it OEM or aftermarket? What leads the mechanics to recommend a new MAF? Do you have any computer codes to help diagnose this? There is a cleaning procedure for MAFs on http://www.shotimes.com

Hey, its possible for a MAF to just go, that happened to my ex girlfriend once, one day was fine, the next there was no power when she hit the gas. Ive read that you should unplug your MAF and take it around the block, if youve got power then its not the MAF, but I dont know if this is the best way to go, although I dont think it would **** your car for a 30 second drive. But you can get a new MAF for 100 bucks at Autozone or anywhere else, and it installs with just a screwdriver (but im sure you knew that wink ) and the tranny refill is around 90 bucks at valvoline, dont get ripped by someone for 400 bucks or whatever theyre banging you for! But if your CEL isnt coming on then your MAF might be fine, so maybe you should open it and clean it if it is suspect. I know theres some procedures online. As far as the fuel pump goes, ive never had the urge to drop the gas tank so maybe 500 bucks aint so bad if you consider it a convenience charge wink

i forgot to say though valvoline wont change your tranny filter but this is easy enough to do yourself, and if you do that then changing the fluid is basically done!

The MTX doesn't have a filter to change, so if they are charging you for a fluid and filter change, you're gettin screwed.

Find a local SHO guy that has a good runing SHO, then trade him MAF's for a spin around the block. Most likely I'd guess plugs and wires, they are the typical culprit.

First, the secondaries open just before 4k.I don`t think you have a problem, rather i believe you got screwed into paying money for what is normal. The SHO doesn`t have tons of low end power, but at 4K you will physically see and hear the power increase because the secodnary runners open.
Secondly,to test a MAF,just unplug it.You will get a CE light, but if the MAF is bad,the car should run better with it unplugged.
Third, you should change MTX fluid, but not routienely.Once every 150k would even be fine,if not longer. It seems the shop you car going to does not know the SHO motor, and is scamming you also.
