Looking to update/upgrade my radar detector (beltronics) that's about 4 years old. Any suggestions? I am leaning towards the ****** passport around $450-$500. If anyone out there can off any feed back I would greatly appreciate it.

It's been discussed a few times on this board. 1/2 will tell you to go with the passport, and the other 1/2 will say the v1 (im on the v1 side). Read the threads and it should help you make an informed decision.

It seems to boil down to this: if you are looking for extreme range and extreme sensitivity then the v1 may have a slight edge in certain bands. If you are looking for a radar detector that virtually eliminates false alarms and are willing to sacrifice some sensitivity/range then look at the ****** 9500i and Beltronics GX65.

I have the Passport 9500. It is awesome at eliminating false alarms etc. That being said, I wish it had the directional arrows the V1 has.
Neither will help much with laser. Sure, they can detect it, but at that point its usually to late. I speak from experience. :(
If your looking for the ultimate in protection, think about some laser jammers also.

Laser jammers:braincramp: really? They make those? Or is it like the radar deflector spray, tin foil on the grill and the license plate screen:rofl:

Yep. Do some research on the net.....there is lots of info on them. Just make sure they are not illegal in your state.

I have two passport 9500 ix and one V1 .. the V1 has been sitting in a desk drawer for over a year. I think the passport does a better job of filtering out false alarms, and I love the red light camera and speed trap warnings.

The actual differences between the two units are small enough that you really can't go wrong with either one, imo.

I also prefer the ****** customer service. I had an issue with the second 9500 I bought. It had a defective case, and came unglued/welded at the seams. ****** dealt with the issue by sending me a new 9500 via fedex overnight and paying for return shipping for the bad one, and providing me a free three year gold membership kit for that 9500, and also the other one I already owned, which allows me 3 years of upgrades and updates to the camera/trap database, and it also came with a 12 volt power block so I could plug the detector in at my computer instead of having to haul the laptop out to the car.

I've owned both a 9500ix and V1.
Sold the V1 because 85% of my driving is city and the K band false alerts are just too annoying. I was finding myself tuning out the detector or forgetting to turn it on at all.
If most of your driving is highway or all of your speeding is highway go with the V1.

V1 just came out with a new feature called "ESP" extended serial port.
It is all specualtion at this point but this paves the way for potential external GPS based filters through a smart phone or other GPS system...

As far as laser jammers, yes they make them and yes some of them work astonishingly well.

V1 with at least two laser jammer heads up front with laser veil on the lights. I have had personally good luck with blinder laser jammers with 3 heads up front, but there are better jammers at this point.
