I've had my 2010 SHO for almost 2 weeks, and can't wait to drive it every day. There are times when I go in the garage just to look at it, with the 20 inch wheels. If only the engine had the looks of the original 1989 Yamaha!

Anyway, here's my dilemma and I'm asking for opinions.
I generally trade cars every 3 years or so, but I will likely end up keeping this one longer. Right now I have 14000 miles on it, and I drive maybe 16,000 miles in an average year. Question is, should I consider an extended warranty through Ford to pick up after the powertrain warranty goes out? I know either way it's a risk, but I don't have the skills to replace anything major on the car if it breaks. I do have a former Ford mechanic as a neighbor who owns a repair shop, and I trust him, but still, the thoughts of replacing a turbocharger seems quite expensive.
I would appreciate all comments.

I drive from Wilkesboro to Concord everyday to work and have put 45k miles on mine the past year so the extended warranty was a must have, I purchased the bumper to bumper thru Ford for 5 years or 125k, I would say yes if you plan on keeping it.

BlueOval, can I ask how much you paid for the 5 year warranty?
By the way, how has the car held up with your daily driving range?

The car without a doubt is the best car I've ever owned, no problems other than the F1 Goodyear and the tail light chrome issues I've mentioned here.

I think I paid a little over a grand for the insurance policy but driving like I do it's money well spent.

What part of NC do you reside?

I assume you bought the warranty through a local Ford dealership?
Any projection on how much longer the brake pads will last? The Goodyear F1's, are they what's on the 19 inch wheels?
I have the 20's with Michelin tires; at 14,000 miles they still have some life left in them, I would expect them to last until about 40,000 miles.

My Michelins have 42k on them and have plenty of tread life left. I drive mostly highway miles and think they will go over 50k+. I got the extended warranty at the time I purchased the car from Ford. Great piece of mind with the 2010 being a first year car.

Yes on the dealership, don't know on the pad life, I rarely use the brakes anyway as most of my driving is Interstate.
They put the F1 tire on the cars equipped with the handling package, mine are 20 inch wheels but now I have Michelins on them.
I lived in Hendersonville back in the 70's.

Thanks for the comments, BlueOval. While it is comforting to hear your success with the durability, I am definitely planning on buying the extended warranty.
It's my understanding that I can buy it anytime before the factory bumper to bumper runs out?
In case you haven't been back to Hendersonville, it's changed quite a bit since the 70's, but it still has the small-town charm to it.
