windshield is cracked, roof dented, fender mangled, ego killed.

My opinion:

The Plus hood has an outer shell, an inner X-brace, a bunch of steel bits in between, but where Budd (the mfr) blew it was that they glued a layer of foil on the outer shell (RF suppression?) before they then glued the inner X-brace to the outer shell.

So the glue holding most of the X-brace to the shell peels loose from the foil and all you've got left is the bonding around the edges.

This has been true of both the hood that's on my white car and the red Plus hood I bought a while back. If they'd just perforated the foil where the X-brace glues to the shell they'd have had no trouble.

My fix: scrape the foil out and get some epoxy in there to bond the X-brace back to the shell.

There was a write-up on that at one point in time. I don't remember if it was on SHOTimes.com (which is back up now BTW) or SHO Club. Seems that the first issued plus hoods had a problem with lamination or something along those lines and they did exactly what yours did.

As I noted above - if you've got a Plus hood, open it and pull out the insulation. Find the spots along the X-brace where there's globs of glue that's supposed to hold the inner X-brace to the outer shell.

Give the outer shell a push from the inside and I'd bet that > 75% of the time you'll find the glue is either no longer stuck to the foil or that the foil has peeled loose from the outer shell.

You've got to clean out the foil, get a good bonding surface on both shell and brace, and get some new glue in there.

there is a guy on here (J-Dawg) he was out testing his car with paul and at about 110-120 the hood seperated and flew over the car and onto the road. lol. I know it isn't funny but it kind of is now. :) sorry it happened to you. I guess he was going fast enough it seperated all the way and came completely off the car without breaking anything.

There is a recall on this AFAIK... You *should* be able to take your car into ford and tell them to look it up to see if its been done...

:oogle: :oogle: Havn't heard this before. I'll have to check my hood now. I'll have to check out my extra hood too. It sucks it happened to you, especially all the other damage that occurred. I had my plus spoiler fly off of my car before. Luckily I found it just off the road not broken, just some scrapes and chips.

If there was a recall, then hopefully mine is fixed. Supposedly all the recalls have been done.

Check the front part of the "seam" on the hood... if you notice any stress cracks (paint starting to split would be a sign, but would not clearly identify it).

Maybe part of the chrome trim will dissappear like it did on my car.:nut: The chrome trim and the part it would normally rest on are completely gone on one of my quarter windows. Maybe it was like that before I bought it, but the way it looks, it looks as if someone ripped it off or something.

I think I'm going to take my Plus hood off of my car. It has always vibrated at highway speeds and I have never felt that it was a very "sold" part.

Beth is correct, the plus hoods had a delamination problem that has been documented long ago. Sorry to hear about the damage :(
