2dopekilla, try using the search feature here. It is the best way to get info without having to wait for answers.

I would leave the mufflers alone and get a high performance y-pipe with mandrel bends. You will gain 10 - 15 whp from the stock y-pipe. Mufflers will give you 50 hp worth of noise and no real power.

It's an ATX, so he won't get much power from a y-pipe. If it were me, I'd go for a SHO Source catback with some Magnaflows.

I had a pre senior moment and thought it was an MTX. I would just replace the mufflers to prevent the rasp.

IT's a downgrade to replace the stockers with low cost mufflers; no performancer gains, and OEM is stainless steel, while most aftermarket mufflers are aluminized steel and will rust out in 3-4 years. Make sure the 60k maintenence has been done and Rod Bearing replacement before buying aftermaket parts. The Yamaha is pretty much bulletproof if maintained, and good for well over 200k.
