Hi All,
My father picked up a 2012 SHO (brand new, every option, it is an AWESOME car) over the winter and I was hoping you could help me out with something I suspect is an exhaust leak that the Ford dealership is saying is normal.
While this is my first experience with a SHO, I am very experienced in the car game, especially modding. My current stable is a 1996 Z28 with a forged 396, a heads & cam 2002 GTP, a bolt on 2000 GTP, and a bolt on 2004 Impala SS. I'm in the process of moving out the GTP's and Impala to make room for a 1996 Impala SS as well, plus, who needs 4 cars
In the past, I have had a 450hp 2000 Monte Carlo SS, and a 550hp 2002 GTP (actually, I currently have that car, just removed the turbo kit), so I am no stranger to turbo cars, and certainly not a newb
My question is pretty simple. Almost immediately from the get go of driving my dad's SHO I noticed an audible ticking under load coming from the drivers side floor panel by the pedals. It's more pronounced on a cold motor, but never goes away. It sounds like an exhaust leak to me. It goes away once the turbos kick in under throttle and if I had to venture a guess, one of the turbo's is in that area (my apologies, again, I don't know much about these particular cars).
The Ford dealer says it's normal, but they can't speak well as to why it's normal. In fact, they can't explain it other than to say they had a 2010 in and it made the same noise so it's normal. In every factory turbo'd car I have ever driven I've never heard this either, and my friends who have driven in the car agree that in their world it isn't normal either.
Now, that is not to say that it isn't normal, but seriously, if it is, in such a NICE car, why would you build it with what sounds like an exhaust leak? Can anyone shed some light on what is up here?
Thanks, and you're probably wondering why I am posting and not him, well, I live on these forums and he doesn't, haha.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
