I'm putting in a SS Y pipe with Cats. The rest of the exhaust is on its way out...If I put in a 2" exhaust all the way back, will it help or hurt? I know the SHOs need backpressure. I will be keeping similar to stock mufflers. Also what about the resonator. If I remove it will it affect performance or change the sound?

Thanks,

Sean

smaller pipe will make it a bit raspier. removing the resonator doesnt make it much louder, doesnt add too much to performance and it WILL make the exhaust raspy.

Thanks, that's what I'm looking for. You say smaller pipe...I thought 2" would be bigger. But now that I think about it it sounds smaller. What is the size of our pipes? I actually want to put in something slightly bigger. What do you think that'd do to sound and performance? I hate rasp.

BTW your engine looks sweet.

I'd say 2.25" out to dual 2", or 2.5" out to dual 2.25". On my Gen I (and it has most of its stock piping) it's single 2" to dual 2", FWIW.

2 1/2" is a really good flowing size for the cat back. 2 1/4" will work well too up to a point(depending on how modded your SHO is going to get)

We have a 2 1/4" stainless system for $500(our mufflers) or you can get it with out the mufflers for $435. I just installed one with Borla XR-1 mufflers and it was soooooo deep sounding. really sounds good, but our system with those mufflers cost $700

your other option is the dynomax system, it is an ok system but it will rust away after time. The mufflers seem prone to failure especially in the north.

1fastsho,

I assume you work at a shop that makes the exhaust system? Do you mail order? Also with your standard mufflers, does it retain the stock sound? Finally does your system come with the resonator?

Basically I have a sho shop stage II setup in my SHO. I don't plan any additional mods. So is 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 better?
