I just got a pair of flowmaster 40's welded on.
It actually sounds pretty decent.
Theres a nice throaty rumble at idle and just a little rasp from lower rpm to redline. Its not that bad though but I know another type of resonator other than what I have will fix that.
I also have the magnaflow high flow y-pipe with the two cats.
After getting the y-pipe welded in with stock mufflers it seemed to have the same amount of rasp as with the flowmasters I have on there now.
Do some more searching on this forum and most posts will advise against putting flows on the V6 sho but its really up to you and your preferance for sound.
I read over and over that Magnaflows and Borla were the way to go but i haven't heard any in person, only on Youtube.

I went to a single exhasut and put a stainless magnaflow on there. It sounds really good. Its got a really deep tone and the only time i get rasp is revving around 4k rpm. There isnt really any rasp while driving. Id recommend magnaflows big time.

stock mufflers don't sound raspy...everything else sounds like shit on a V6 SHO.
What?

You're doing it wrong.

The Dynomax system sounds nice, however it will rust off in no time. If you can find one, the Borla system is nice also. Magnaflow's are another option, however you need to use a larger than stock resonator, or you will have rasp.

Which will sound like the aforementioned shit that Tim was talking about.

Of all the exhaust ive heard and tried , Borla was the nicest. But they are far from cheap.

Im running a catted y-pipe with stock catback and summit turbo mufflers. Small amount af rasp around 4k when its cold, but after that its clear sailing.

if i'm doing it so wrong, how is it that my cats are gutted, i have no resonator, and i'm using a single flowmaster 40 series and i have no rasp?

The gutted cats act as the resonator, unless you managed to shove a test pipe through the cats.

I have a Borla cat-back with stock Y-Pipe. It sounds really nice when it's running at an idle. Not too loud in the car, even when the secondaries open up. Not sure about how it sounds from outside the car when I'm driving. I don't trust anyone enough to let them drive it while I stand outside and listen to it. lol

My car had flows on it when I bought it, they were promptly removed. Sounds like ASS on a V6.

Borla sounds awesome. Dynomax sounds good, not overly loud, btu as Hamal stated, rust will pwn joo

I have a pair of the short flowmasters on my 90. They sound great.
When they were installed, I installed a long straight-through muffler in place of the factory resonator. There is absolutely no rasp.
They are on the upper level of loud, but not loud enough for anyone to launch a complaint.
They sound very aggressive.
If you already have flowmasters in stock, use them with a replacement muffler instead of the resonator. You won't be sorry.
