I have what seems to be an exhaust leak coming from the center of the car that only occurs after the car has ran enough to warm up the system. It is a full Borla system btw. It makes this **** type noise but the odd thing is that I can't keep both my hands on the tailpipes to see where it is coming from due to the pressure. It seems to have excellent exhaust pressure so can this really be an exhaust leak or could it be something in the valvetrain and it's just resonating through the exhaust. I've looked over it again and again and the closest that I can trace the noise to is around the resonator but no leaks are present. Again, it only happens when the system is warmed up and it is especially noticeable say at a drive through.

look over your complete exhaust system, up down and all around any joints with the car running (depending if you have excess to some ramps or a hoist, not the smartest idea to be under a running car on axle stands), you will see black (carbon) all around where there is a leak, if there is a leak. if you cats are original, then you might have to pull off the heat shields to see if they are leaking (a very good possibility if they are stock)

Have you replaced your donut gasket lately? On the MTX exhaust system, this flex joint gasket at the ****** where the Y-pipe mates with the single center tube of the Borla system is a wear item that can definitely allow a leak when worn. The Fel-Pro 60641 (or equivalnet) is about $5 through various auto parts shops.

I also have a Borla system and have had Borla pay for MIG welding on exhaust leaks at the resonator input and output pipe joints. They offered to pay because they could not build a new section of piping because they have retired the jig with which they built our systems. If you have repairs required on the Borla system, I can give you the contact information to obtain reimbursement.

Thanks for the help. I plan to take it to an exhaust shop tomorrow and see what they can find and I might just need that number.

Scott, I think you are right. I ran my finger across the ****** and I was able to pick up a bunch of carbon soot. I did the same around the resonator and it came up clean. Can I change it out by just loosening the ****** bolts and the support strap around the resonator or do I have to take the whole system apart?

Should be able to replace the donut without disconnecting anything else. It's only about 3/4" thick.

Any competent muffler shop should be able to replace the donut gasket for about $25 bucks or so. I had the exact same symptoms on a stock exahust system. Replaced that gasket...no more problem.

Once you loosen the clamp at the y-pipe/catback there should be enough play to remove the old donut gasket and put in the new one.

Oh c'mon. It takes ten minutes to replace. Get your hands dirty. And bring Twister or P'Blaster.

Another common leak, as mentioned is a cracked cat. Often, these leaks are heard and not seen. Removal of the Y might be necessary to find such a crack.
