Mike,
I cannot tell you WHAT you need to fix, but I think I can tell you what to test and how to test it.
The following will be the tests for the DIS (Distributorless Ignition) for the EEC-IV system.
Before going into the tests you will find the DIS Module mounted on the crossover intake tube on the passenger side of the vehicle.
It is grounded by the four small screws that hold it to the manifold. It is also grounded by the bolts that hold the crossover tube to the heads. Check and clean all grounds.
Now the DIS module has two multi-wire connectors (six each). One is on the right, and one is on the left. The one on the left, when viewed from the passenger side of the vehicle, has the following wires from top to bottom; 1. VBAT, 2. CID (Dark Green, 3. PIP to EEC Dark Blue(I think), 4. PIP (Dark Blue?) 5. SPOUT Yellow/light green tracer(stripe)6. DPI.
The right side wires are from BOTTOM to TOP as follows; 7. IGN GROUND Black/Orange stripe, 8. COIL, 9. COIL, 10. COIL, 11. COIL, 12. IDM Gray/Orange Stripe.
Finally the tests:
1. PIP to Control Unit- Connect a DMM or a LED test light between the PIP wire (Dark Blue) and the negative battery terminal - crank engine.
Test results should be 3 to 7 volts or the test light should blink.
If NOT Crank sensor, crank sensor power or ground, or wiring faulty.
2. SPOUT to DIS Module (PIP signal OK)- Connect DMM or LED to SPOUT wire (Y/LG) and neg. bat. terminal - Crank engine.
Test results should be 3 to 7 volts or test light blinks.
If not, Control unit or wiring faulty.
3. IDM to Control Unit- connect DMM or LED to IDM wire (GY/O) and neg bat terminal, - crank engine.
Test results should be 3 to 7 volts or test light blinks.
If not, DIS Module or wiring faulty.
4. CID at sensor- Connect LED test light between CID CS wire (DG) and negative battery terminal - crank engine, test light blinks.
If not, CID sensor or wiring faulty.
5. Coil Power- Connect LED test light between COIL PWR (VBAT wire and negative battery terminal key on (do not crank engine) Test light on.
If not COIL POWER wiring faulty.
Hope this helps. I'll let someone else address the EGR codes. rangerj
