I just bought a 1995 SHO MTX from a good friend of mine, I know the car very well and know it has run perfect until he power washed the engine.

I have pulled all the plug wires and cleared the water from the plug holes and wires, I pulled the plugs and dried them as well.

I have disconnected most of the connectors I could find and dried them off, however the car is still running like crap. The check engine light is not on. There are no codes as far as I can tell.

The car is going in for a 60k tune up in the next week or so. I need to resolve this issue, I used about a half tank of gas driving to and from work in the last 2 days!!

check the plugs and see if they're fouled.

Might as well go ahead and replace the plugs and wires now....possibly replace the coil pack, too.

How much will a decent wire set and coil cost me?? I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, So we have all the major chains here and some not so major chains.

If its a matter of getting it soon, orileys has a nice set for about 55 bucks. They are 8mm, and have a Lifetime warranty.

Why do some people insist on powerwashing engines? Hit your buddy in the head with a tack hammer.

Hook up an air compressor with an air nozzle, and spray out all of your electrical connectors too. Or WD40 them and displace the water out.

Why oh why...

Good luck- and don't let him near your car anymore! :)

Same with Autozone, also lifetime warranty Duralast. For plugs If you're getting them there or any other chain get the Autolite Double platinum APP3924.

If you put in new plugs, its all dry and it still does it id say you need new plug wires.

I just thought I'd come and introduce myself as the village idiot who sold the '95MTX. The car had been sitting for a long time and I just couldn't stand to look at the engine bay when it was so damn dirty. I knew I'd be doing a full 60k soon and so I did the unthinkable and powerwashed it.... I learned this lesson over 10 years ago with my first SHO and never made that mistake again... until now. All I can say is yes I was a dumb@$$ and that I knew better.

OK, I feel better now :)
