I probably deserve to be flamed for even thinking this.. Can a v6 engine from a regular taurus be swapped into the SHO? what would this require? I recently purchased a 97 SHO on ebay , it said the car is hesitant and sluggish. I don't know anything about the car's history, whether the cams are welded or not.. I bought the car on a whim on ebay the other night. I will pick it up on monday next week and look it over, see what it needs, but due to my limited budget if the engine is bad this seems like it would be much cheaper to locate a donor v6 car than finding another good v8.

i dont think its a bad idea at all. I think for reliability reasons the V-6's are a good choice. I know everyone says the yamaha engines go forever but everybody on here is always mentioning their cars being broken for one reason or another.

you could pick up the duratec 3.0 fairly cheap..i'm no expert, but my guess is it's doable..you'll need the wiring harness and computer from the donor engine too, which will increase the price some

How far is North Bay from Peterborough? I know someone there who may have a spare V8 motor or may be able to track one down for you at a reasonable price.

It is doable as I have done the opposite that you are inquiring about. The actually engine/subframe swap is pretty straight forward however all the little nitnoid electrical things can drive you crazy. I don't no if it would be any easier going the opposite of me (Gen II V-6 to Gen II V-8).

My personal opinion would be to locate another V-8 and poke it in there. Of course I would suggest you thoroughly check yours out first cause it might be something simple. Don't just assume that the cams have failed generally when the cams have failed it won't run at all. You may just need to replace some coils etc or something even simpler than that.

Yes it definitely needs to be looked over first. North Bay is 3hrs north of Barrie..
I'm not sure exactly where Peteborough is. I was reading a bit on here about the IRMC (have no idea what it means) but I'm hoping that is the reason why it is sluggish. Seems like a fairly easy fix, and I will be getting the cams welded right away if they have not been done already.

IMRC = Intake Module Runner Control
very common for the control cable or gear to break and stop oppening the secondary butterflies. Easy fix can be mechanicaly wired open with no major affects.
