OK, so I got out the first engine, and I am almost done with the one out of the other car, but I ran into a slight problem.

When I was hoisting out the first engine out of the car that I will be using, I pulled on the axelshaft a bit hard and I think that I pulled it out of it's seal a bit because the seal that joins the axelshaft to the transmission leaked out a ton of transmission fluid out of the seal and I am afraid that I may have broke the seal.

It is the one that connects the passenger's side front tire to it and it leaked it out at a steady drip (almost a flow). It was caught on the little bracket that the exhaust hanger goes in that is on the bottom of the oil pan (removed not and it comes out much better now...stupid me...)

Do I have to replace this seal? I have a feeling it is toast and that it should be done. Maybe is there a way to push it back in? I haven't poked around enough to look closely at it. How big a job is it to replace that seal if need be? Am I screwed? HELP!!!

Thanks all...

The seal should not have ben damaged by simply pulling the axle out, but if it is damaged, they are easily replaced and are fairly cheap. You should be able to get them at any auto parts store(maybe special order) or contact SHOnut if no one has any. You probably wont get them until after the convention though through SHOnut.

Simply pry the old seal out with a screwdriver, lubricate the new seal with grease and then drive it in with a large socket and a hammer. Also lubricate the rubber parts before installing the axle.

New seals are only 2-3 bucks each at AutoZone.

I'd replace them on both sides while everything is out.

Replacement is as described. Then, make sure you refill the ATF before driving.

OK, I will try to do this myself. I will look into the tranny seals, and probably do them both while I got it out.

As for the engine, I used the bolts from the intake brackets and screwed them in with the chain in the center. It seemed to have held ok.
