Engine stalls when I push clutch in

Hello,

I have an 89 sho (mtx of course). Its running real good. But when I clutch to stop, the engine stalls, It does start right back up thankfully so far. Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like the idle air control valve is not working correctly. Suggest you check the codes but that's my best first guess.

I had the same problem about a year and half ago. I was still on the original IAC so I replaced it. It just happened again a couple of times. Has anyone run into IAC going bad that fast. You only get a one year warranty with these replacement parts, but I didn't think it would go bad that fast.

Mine occurs when I'm on the highway, before I shift to the next gear. No codes, runs great otherwise.

I have had new IACs be bad right out of the box. Luckily I finally got a good one and haven't had an issue in 5 years or so. I've also got 4 or 5 known good ones sitting on the shelf now too.

I've ordered an idle air control valve. But what do a 19c (CID sensor failure) and 41c (HEGO sensor always low /lean or no h02s switching detected) error codes suggest to you all??? On the 89' sho (3.0L) the CID sensor supplies the ECA with cylinder #1 identification. On the 3.0L SHO, it is driven by the camshaft.

And the oxygen sensors are new.

The car is running well except that some times it stalls when I clutch. I can minimize this by driving differently. And sometimes, it won't turn over. I try again or wait a minute and it starts. The battery and starter are new.

I do have a sho manual with the codes. The manual can be downloaded for free. search on SHO_Engine_Book.pdf
or I can send anyone one. The download is free. I did have to try 3 times.

I have had some experience with the CAM shaft sensor. I've had this car (used 10K miles) since 1990 and in the earlier days I had a failure of this sensor. It caused the car to sort of hop. I went to 3 dealers. The last had the car on their computer while the problem was happening and the mechanic could not diagnose it. A sho owner / mechanic in Chicago finally told me what it was. Whew. And then several years later, it happened again. Except this time,the sensor had not failed. It was the seal that the sensor sits on that had failed getting oil in the sensor and causing it to malfunction. And the car hopped.

I'm not having any symptom like I had before with the CAM shaft sensor, but there could be other symptoms under different conditions.

I think you have multiple problems.

The lean code suggests you have a vacuum leak on the intake somewhere. This is likely due to a cracked vacuum hose somewhere, but there are other possibilities. The vacuum leak is making it lean out too much at idle and the iac/pcm cannot always compensate fast enough to keep it running.

The cam sensor code could be important or not at this time - it might have been set for a one-time occasion or it could be on its way out.

I would start by looking for vacuum leaks.
