Engine replacement.

Hello all,

I am trying to help a friend with his 2013 SHO. He had a water pump failure and went too long before trying to repair, now needs a engine. Turbos, converters and may other items on engine are newer, Replaced by me.

My question is, can I install long block from non turbo into this vehicle?
I ask because I have a very low mile long block I can give him. Used engines for his car run 2-3k.

That sounds like a wiring nightmare. Physically maybe. I mean there are awd taurus out there. Maybe engine, wiring harness, and computer or tune from that other n/a taurus? This would be the first I've heard of if you pull it off.

Yes, I would be using everything but the long block from original. My long block is from a awd as well

block and rotating assembly will swap but compression ratio will likely be too high for a boosted setup (Can't recall the N/A CR), heads and valvetrain will need to be re-used from his existing engine.

I assumed he was trying to make a n/a Taurus out of a SHO w/blown motor. I would not trust the SHO heads and turbos on a n/a taurus shortblock.

There is a difference between the N/A 3.5 and the Ecoboost 3.5. They have different part numbers for their respective short blocks. Pretty sure the SHO have a better crank, rods, and pistons. I would not swap it.

**** there is a difference in engines between the PP and Non PP SHO's as well.

Also, the biggest difference is the pistons. Direct injection pistons have the "spray bowl" on them for the DI. This is to help with fuel atomization, cooling of the piston and prevent the fuel spray from washing the cylinder walls, causing premature wear.
