Can you take out a 93 3.0 engine without taking the transmission out?

Thank you, that is very helpful. Do you need to loosen the bolts in the wheel well that hold the transmission? Also can one person do it alone. I have everything disconnected as your engine looked, so I am on my way. Thank you again, much appreciated.

That's not me. That was on the interwebs.
I only ever pulled the engine & tranny together and that was way way back when I had that kind of time. There are how to's for dropping the entire subframe with everything attached and maybe pulling the combo out the top. I haven't even thought about this in a really long time. Someone may have more tips/write-ups from way back archived from the old forum and info from other places like the old shotimes website.

I would say it is easier to pull the engine and trans as a unit. I think it would be really tight unless you take all of the accesories off because you have to pull it all the way off of the input shaft. It would be really tough to line up the transmission on the clutch going back in. I'm sure it can be done though.

Ok I am new to this, but as I have no money or friends to help I figured it the easy way. So I got a video showing the removal without transmission; however you saying aligning the clutch could ve tricky. Could you elaborate on that further possible. I have everything disconnected already except the transmission. With taking it out seems so much more work with the drive shafts though. Much appreciated.

I've done numerous engine swaps in my garage by myself. Just pop the lower ball joints loose and pull the axles. Then without the tires on, you can lower the car further for more clearance when pulling the engine.

The input shaft has to go into the clutch quite a ways, and lining it up can be a chore sometimes, I would imagine even more so if you are trying to put it back in with the engine dangling.

Ok how do you line up the clutch and how do you know if you haven't done it right. Sorry for all these ?s.

It won't go in if you don't have it right. You could probably search youtube for clutch alignment.

So in getting it out I will loosen transmission and have it at an angle. Questions, can it only go in one way, also im putting in a different engine yet same year and model.

You will probably be swapping the clutch/pressure plate and possibly flywheel, but you'll just have to get the input shaft to line up with the splines. It takes some twisting and turning, and sometimes a clutch alignment tool is handy (I've done enough that I don't use one anymore).

I think if you are worried about the trans and the axles maybe you should consider dropping the subframe from the bottom and lifting the front of the chassis to get everything out. You could leave the axles in and all that.

I pulled the motor several times, to many to count. Pull them both as a unit. Much much much easier. The transmission is a piece of cake to take off once its out of the engine bay attached to motor. You will spend a lot of time and cussing trying to detach the transmission in the engine bay, not much clearance for the motor to pull off it. Just pull them together. Its easy and will take less time.
