Does anyone have any readings of their engine knock? I'm looking to get a comparison. I've been taking my car into the dealership lately for similar symptoms when I had the knock-sensor fiasco. Service manager says that both knock sensors are reading in the 900's (even while cruising, not just acceleration) and says that baseline for the SHO is in the 500's.

I have a tune now, but the tune went on after all of this was determined. Pretty much was told by the service manager, "put your tune on and see if it goes away, what's the worst that can happen." I told him that the engine could break and that the blame would be placed on me because of the tune. He asked if I could put the stock tune back on and I said yes. He pretty much indicated that if it did break while it was tuned that he would have my back and turn a blind eye.

He is also trying to get a hold of an engineer for some input on the situation. The "Ford Unhelpful Line" told him if there were no MIL's that they can't do anything. I'm not entirely sure that a high rate of engine knock will give you a MIL anyways. High knock counts are used by the computer to tune your engine down to prevent it from breaking right? That and I think the computer is weak at determining problems from certain sensors. I had a turbo leaking and fouling up the intake manifold and MAP and MAPv sensors and never got a MIL. It was just compensating for those readings and adjusting the engine.

Are MIL's error codes??? Are you noticing your SHO is more sluggish, like it was when you had the knock wiring issues? Do you hear the engine knock? Have you done any logging with SCT Live Link or other Logging software, both before this happened, and now, where it should show up in your readings?

Sounds like you have a sympathetic Service Manager....

93 octane BP - different stations around town

I have the MyCal device but it doesn't log the knock. I can log other things and you can definitely see the RPM's get knocked down. I'll see if I can post up a pic of it later this evening.

My check engine light issues and #6 misfire with STOCK TUNE on trip back to IA, occurred on BP 93 gas. Never happened again in 1400 more miles.

What does Rick @ Livernois say about this issue?

Perhaps you need to have the other knock sensor, that wasn't replaced, changed out, if replacing the first knock sensor and wiring seemed to fix the issue at that time. Did your dealer check the knock readings when it was seemingly running OK?
Don't know how much they cost, but if not too much, you may want to replace them & wiring on your own dime, as if it solves the issue, then Ford would have to pick up the tab.

You will need to download the Zeitronix program from http://www.zeitronix.com/zdl/index.shtml#latest to view them.

Here are some logs that I did today:

http://www.customwheelsexpress.com/taurus/ShortNeightborhoodRun.zdl
http://www.customwheelsexpress.com/taurus/2milesDownHWY.zdl

http://www.customwheelsexpress.com/taurus/8miles-Interstate.zdl
http://www.customwheelsexpress.com/taurus/1mile-LeavingInterstateToWork.zdl

These log files encompass my daily drive to work. Quick drive out of the neighborhood. Total of 3 miles to the interstate down the HWY. About 8 miles down the interstate and exit off and then just under a mile till I get to work. These logs were taken with stock tune and no mods whatsoever.

I really don't know if the spark advance is out of whack or not because I have nothing to compare against. The issue that I'm having can been really seen in the 1mileDownHWY file. If you open it up and you will see that I start out stationary. I start to accelerate and get to 2nd gear around 15 MPH and then get to 3rd gear around 28MPH. If you look at the RPM's just after getting to 3rd gear you will notice that it drops to 2360 RPM's from 2850 RPM's and then kind of lags a bit before it really starts to climb again. During that lag I still have a constant rate of acceleration (going from 30 MPH to 36 MPH) but the RPM's are just kind of flat like they are being restricted from climbing. I can hear what sounds like a little bit of air being release from my BOV's but since I can't log that I can't confirm it but as soon as those RPM's start to climp that whooshing sound goes away.
