Hey all,
I was just wondering how flexable the egr to exhaust manifold tube is supposed to be. Im fairly convinced mines broke; when its unbolted from the intake it moves around a lot and i can smell exhaust in the car when im driving it around. How should i go about fixing it? Whould i be able to get to the end thats attached to the exhaust manifold easily?

Thanks guys,
David

Easily? No. But you can get to it with the required 10mm (?) socket to remove the two bolts securing the rather thick ****** to the exhaust manifold. Adam Varney, are you recalling any memories reading this?

The EGR tube is supposed to be braised or welded to this ******. Get a visual verification that the lower end of the EGR tube is not secured to the ******. If detached, reinsert the lower end of the EGR tube into the ****** and use a marker or scribe to indicate the correct orientation of the tube in the ****** to let it fit to the EGR valve without binding.

Then lay on top of the cold engine (feet toward passenger side headlight worker for me) and use a 1/4" socket driver with 10mm socket to remove the two-bolt ****** from the exhaust manifold. Inspect the tube for other possible leaks. You will have to remove the two rubber hoses from the EGR tube that route to the DPFE sesnor. Take the tube and ****** to a shop and have the ****** welded in the proper orientation to the EGR tube. Return to the car and reinstall the EGR tube.

The ****** where the tube meets the rear exhaust manifold is very fragile. I broke mine off cleanly as the tack welds used simply let loose.

I took it to a local steel shop and they silver brazed the ****** back on for 15 bucks.

I see you live in arizona and have an MTX...I would consider removing the EGR all together...

EGR was only required on Cali cars to my knowledge...
Exactly right. You can just plug up each end and be done with it. On my MTX the tube had totally blown out, not simply disconnected. Exhaust fumes are sickening after awhile.

And once you see what a new EGR tube costs, you will most likely NOT want to try to replace it anyways.
IIRC, the tube alone is about $170.

Yeah, I would like to just get rid of it. I did a search but couldnt seem to find any more info on it. I should be able to use a chip instead of swaping comps right? i wanted to get a ted b one eventually anyway. Whatd you use to block the openings? Could it being broken cause a vaccum leak?

yes it can cause a vacuum leak. I capped mine off using the ****** and a piece of sheet metal. That way I was using the original bolts and all.

I would figure getting a new PCM would be the best idea...

SHOoff89, I dont think there would be any more power at wide open throttle because the pcm ignores the egr at wot, or something along those lines.
SolidState, what did you use to cap off the intake? i remember hearing someone using a part of the vulcan engine.
