Alright, after doing a lil searching this afternoon I'm pretty sure that my ECT temp is shot, it's got all the symptoms... doesnt wana stay running from a cold startup, but then is fine once warmed up, running rich, etc... So I went to Advanced-Auto-Junk this afternoon and they got me the part I needed(something I needed actually in stock for once!) I'm pretty sure it's the right kind but not 100%, the part num is TSU83 from the company GP Sorensen, can someone verify if that's correct for me?

Also, I'm not real sure as to how it where it's supposed to go, chilton's claims that it's on the side of the cylinder head, but on here I've only seen people say it's behind the t-stat, so which is it? Any pics of where it is and how to change it would be greatly appreciated (i'm a visual learner :D )

Thanks all!

AH HA! Now I see, so it's down by where the coolant line for a Tb coolant by-pass starts from...

I'm not sure, but that looks like a 3.0, Is the sensor in the same spot on a 3.2?

Thanks for the pics Guitar!

The not wanting to run when cold could be another problem by itself. I've had a bad ECT in two cars and did not experience that problem.

I pulled codes this afternoon, and all I got was 117 and 176, one of the ECT and one for the O2's, so I think it may be a combo of those two. I'll be fixing both within a week or so.

HOPEFULLY it's one of those two sensors, but I'm not betting on it. I've had ECTs go bad on two SHOs (one SHO twice) and never had the running problems you're experiencing.

My bad ECTs always rear their heads as overheating problems and cooling fan problems, as I believe the primary function of the ECT is to send the coolant temperature info to the computer so it knows when to turn on the fans, etc.

Good luck. Hope it's as simple as a sensor!

EDIT: Oh, and in my opinion the brass Wells sensor (from AutoZone) is a quality piece while the plastic ones (available other places, NAPA for example) is a piece of junk.

I second that, with enthusiasm. :)
