ebrake question

hey guys please post up, i have done plenty of searching to no avail, im sure a very easy question for one of you so..
my ebrake cable assembly broke soo 10 dollars at rock auto and i have a new handle and cable BUT

How the heck do i get the assembly out of the dash???? someone mentioned a retaining clip but i climed my ass under the steering colomn and couldnt see squat
please help i wanna stop using rope to pull my brake release

thanks a lot for the help, i even know about the site but i was too stupid to check. i get so caught up in the community that when i dont find something through a search here i figure it couldnt possibly be anywhere else haha
