Hi SHO Folks,
Questions please.
1) Is there any alternative to the $100 bill the dealer (Drew Ford, La Mesa, Ca.) wants for a spare key to my 96 SHO?
Seems a bit high.:grrr:
2) Does anyone know a competent "V8 SHO" mechanic (Dealer or otherwise), here in the San Diego area?
There are a number of small maintanence items I'd really like to clear up on my car, But just don't want to take the car to the local dealer mechanic who (in this instance); Had a V6, and isn't "afraid" to work on a V8.
Of course, if it gives him trouble he says, he'll just have to charge me.
I'm Sure!
On the job training isn't something I like to pay for!
So, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Just buy a key from ebay and program it yourself. I did it and it was much easier that you may think. As for the other maintenance problems sorry I can't help you there.

Correct.

For '96 and '97 SHO's, as long as you have one working key you can program additional keys pretty easily (as long as you haven't had the maximum number of keys (8 IIRC) programmed, then you'll still need to go to the dealer). As a matter of fact, even without a working PATS key it's not impossible to program keys.

For '98 and '99 SHO's, if you only have one key the dealer or someone with an NGS is the only way to do it.

96 SHO key

Hi V8 SHO Folks,
thanks for the reply. I'll watch for a key on eBay.
From the sounds of it, they are all the same (all have the same "Cut")?
Once I get one, I'm lost as far as programming it goes. Can someone please outline the steps required to do so?
Thanks in advance.

PS to exitwound; you're my kind of guy (no "fruitiness" intended). I roadraced Kawasaki MACH III 500 and H2 750 2 Stroke Triples during the late 70's and early 80's, here in Southern California.
When it comes to performance, it's good to see Brilliant Minds think alike! ;-)
