My Ford dealer did not have the answer to this question, but what happens when you start the car with the fob in your pocket or jacket, and then, say forget to hit the button to shut it off and get out to go to a store away from the car. Does the car still keep running, could someone else jump in and say see you later..... I am sure Ford has this one figured out?

yeah, the car continues to run. You cant restart it if you steal it, but you can definately take off. Make sure you at least lock your doors!

Really? because every remote start system I've dealt with, including Ford's dealer installed unit, will immediately shut off if you press the brake and the key isn't in the ignition or in the car. Most systems have a time limit too, before it will shut itself back off. Maybe Ford's is different?

I didnt realize he was talking about remote start. I thought he was just talking about the push button ignition. The remote start may be different

There is no remote start for the 2010 SHOs yet, but as long as you have the fob in your pocket and not in the vehicle, the car will cut after a certain distance is what I have been told. It alerts you in the dash board that the key is not present. Then, not restart until the key is put back within the car's vicinity.

Oh yea, you're right. I was mistaken. It sounds like he's talking about the dash start, not a remote start.

Also, BTW, Ford is supposed to be releasing an OEM remote start system for any of the new Fords that have push button start, either now or very soon. I remember posting the ford article discussing it on a thread about remote starts in the gen4 forum somewhere.

Here it is, 2nd to last post: http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=104737&highlight=remote+start

Glad to hear that you can get a remote start for the car, have it with my G8 and its a great thing to have when the car has a foot of snow on it and its cold. Back to the push button start on the car and fob it sounds like what I thought, it will keep running if you leave the car. I had a friend with a vette that has a key fob, push button start and when he is a certain distance away from the car it turns off, I bet the SHO has the same thing.....Thanks for the comments. My car hopefully will be here by the end of March, can't wait!

I left the wife in the car while I ran into the store with fob in my pocket, the car didn't shut off. I'm not sure what would happen if somebody stepped on brake though, might have to check it out to make sure it can't be driven away.

I start up mine and get out all the time to let it warm up. It's never shut off on me, but I only let it warm up for about 5'. I do notice that it says "KEY NOT DETECTED" when I first get back in.

The remote start system WILL shut off if you get into the car and hit the brake. I've seen some Ford vehicles that have been started using remote start shut off when you open the door (Flex/edge do that alot. i think its because i use the key fob to unlock the doors instead of putting the key into the doorlock).

If you stop at the corner store and run inside, the car will continue running. If the keyfob is out of range from the SHO, the car will still run/shift out of park. If someone steals your car, they can keep going until it runs out of gas. But they wouldnt be able to start it after. So if you plan on leaving it run as you go somewhere else, keep it locked. I don't know whether or not the anti theft system will recognize a break in while its running and shut the car down.

Trying starting a car thats push button start (SHO/limited taurus, mks, mkt) when you have two or more fobs with you lol. I would literally have to hold the proper fob near the push button while holding all the others in my hand out the window of the car to be able to start it.
