One day after backing out of a parking spot, i noticed the car doesn't shift to 5th, nor reverse. It goes to 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th all in normal spot. But when I move it over to the right and up, it goes back to 3rd. And when I move it over and down, it goes down to 4th instead of reverse. then I notice when I put it in the normal 3rd and 4th, I can move the stick right, into the 5th or reverse spot. Its like that path the stick would go to 5th and reverse dissappeared making the car a 4 speed with no reverse. I have the cable shifter, any ideas how this may happen and a possible fix. havn't gone under it yet.

I see what it is, its that stupid ball and socket connection under the transmission that hold the cable shifter to the tranmission shifting bracket, or whatever you call that. It was rigged before with wire that fell off. I was running a search and found this mopar clip thats suppose to work. Is that for that? Where do you find this clip?

cable shifter problems

better a cable problem than a problem w/5th or reverse in the gear set.

if I remember correctly, the mopar fix was something related to the control assembly under the shifter. you could fix this ... or just find a used rod shifter and relieve your pain permanently.

Yeah, I researched the mopar clip. Well I know what to do when that breaks. Anyways, I fixed it with 1 piece of metal wire, and 3 zip ties. Hope it holds.

mopar fix

call or PM me when it breaks and I'll find you a nice rod shifter from the pile of SHO parts in the shed.
